Position Overview

Join our team as a Legal Officer, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring legal compliance and protecting the institution’s interests. Reporting to the Legal Service Manager, you will be responsible for a range of legal activities, including contract management, negotiation, and litigation support.

Main Duties

Contract Management:

  • Prepare and manage contracts, leasing security documents, MOUs, and other legal agreements.
  • Review and negotiate various agreements with suppliers and customers, ensuring legal compliance and minimizing risks.

Legal Advisory:

  • Communicate with external attorneys to provide legal advice on institutional obligations, rights, and risks.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as HR, Finance, and Marketing to ensure legal compliance across the institution.

Litigation Support:

  • Review and vet demand letters, pleadings, and other litigation documents.
  • Manage litigation records and liaise with external lawyers for dispute settlement and defense.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Handle any other related duties assigned from time to time to support the legal function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree.
  • Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current Practising Certificate.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong drafting and reporting-writing skills.
  • Proficient in contract drafting and lease transactions.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
