The Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) is a corporate body established through the Supplies Practitioners Management Act (SPMA), 2007, an Act of Parliament. KISM’s mandate includes providing training, registration, and licensing of supplies practitioners, as well as regulating their practice and related purposes. As the National body for Procurement and Supply Chain Professionals in both the private and public sectors in Kenya, KISM plays a crucial role in the industry.

Job Description: Legal Officer

Directorate: Corporation Secretary & Legal Services

Reporting to: Corporation Secretary & Director, Legal Services

As the Legal Officer, you will play a key role in handling all legal matters, contributing to the development of regulations, establishing dispute resolution mechanisms, and providing in-house legal services to ensure efficient implementation of the Institute’s mandate.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Preparing and Reviewing Legal Documents: Ensure accuracy and compliance by carefully preparing and reviewing legal documents and instruments.
  2. Legal Opinions and Briefs: Provide well-researched and clear legal opinions and briefs as needed.
  3. Drafting Legal Documents: Skillfully draft legal documents, leases, and contracts.
  4. Legal Research: Conduct in-depth research on specific legal areas to support decision-making.
  5. Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to statutory and other legal requirements.
  6. Litigation Representation: Represent the Institute in litigations and other legal matters.
  7. Institute’s Interest Safeguarding: Safeguard the Institute’s interests in all legal matters.
  8. Liaison with Attorney General: Establish effective communication and coordination with the office of the attorney general on legal matters.
  9. Document Custody: Ensure safe custody of the Institute’s legal documents and records.

Person Specifications

To be eligible for this role, candidates must have:

  1. Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree: Obtained from a recognized institution.
  2. Post Graduate Diploma in Law: Possess a valid post-graduate diploma in law.
  3. Legal Practicing Certificate: Hold a current legal practicing certificate.
  4. Computer Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications.
  5. Chapter 6 Compliance: Successfully meet the expectations of Chapter 6 on Leadership and Integrity.
