Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) is a State Corporation under the Government of Kenya, established through the Kenya Leather Development Council Order, 2011 (Legal Notice No. 114 of 9th September, 2011), under the State Corporations Act (Cap. 445), Laws of Kenya. KLDC’s mission is to provide leadership and policy direction in the regulation, production, processing, and marketing of the leather industry, promoting equitable development and contributing to poverty reduction.

In pursuit of these objectives, KLDC is seeking to recruit highly qualified professionals for the following roles:

1. Principal Internal Auditor – KLDC/001/2024


Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Grade: KLDC 4
Department: Internal Audit

Job Summary

The Principal Internal Auditor will play a crucial role in ensuring that KLDC’s internal control mechanisms are effective, reliable, and in compliance with relevant regulations. This position requires a seasoned professional who can provide independent and objective assurance on the organization’s risk management, control, and governance processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the internal audit function by planning, executing, and reporting on audits of various departments within KLDC.
  • Evaluate financial records and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Develop audit plans that focus on key areas of risk, aligning with the strategic goals of KLDC.
  • Provide recommendations for improving internal controls, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and report on the progress to senior management.
  • Prepare audit reports for presentation to the Board and relevant stakeholders.

2. Senior Accountant – KLDC/002/2024

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial transactions, preparing accurate financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with extensive experience in financial management within a corporate environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports that accurately reflect the financial position of KLDC.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including timely submission of tax returns.
  • Supervise the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.

3. Leather Industrial Development Officer – KLDC/003/2024

Job Summary

The Leather Industrial Development Officer will be instrumental in supporting the development and implementation of policies and programs aimed at advancing Kenya’s leather industry. This position requires a proactive individual with a strong background in industrial development and a passion for promoting the growth of the leather sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for the growth and development of the leather industry in Kenya.
  • Conduct research and analysis on industry trends, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the value chain to promote the adoption of best practices and new technologies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of industry development programs, making adjustments as needed.

4. Supply Chain Management Officer – KLDC/004/2024

Job Summary

The Supply Chain Management Officer will oversee the procurement and logistics functions of KLDC, ensuring that goods and services are acquired in a timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner. This role demands a meticulous professional with a deep understanding of supply chain processes and public procurement regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement process, including tendering, supplier selection, and contract management.
  • Ensure compliance with public procurement laws, regulations, and KLDC’s internal policies.
  • Coordinate the sourcing of goods and services, ensuring value for money and quality standards are met.
  • Monitor and evaluate supplier performance, building and maintaining strong relationships with key vendors.

Job Summary

The Planning & Strategy Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans that align with KLDC’s mission and vision. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and experience in corporate planning and performance management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic plans that align with KLDC’s objectives and drive the organization’s growth.
  • Conduct environmental scanning and analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Coordinate the implementation of strategic initiatives across various departments.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of strategic plans, reporting on progress to management.
  • Facilitate the development of departmental work plans and ensure their alignment with the overall strategic plan.
  • Provide guidance and support to departments in the implementation of their strategies.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on strategic initiatives for senior management and the Board.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and developments, ensuring that KLDC’s strategies remain relevant and effective.

  1. Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
  2. Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority.
  3. Clearance/Compliance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
  4. Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
  5. Clearance from a recognized Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
