Kenya Highlands University is a Private Christian Chartered University located in the heart of Kericho. To improve service delivery and performance, the University wishes to recruit Christian professionals for the following vacant positions:

Administration

1. Finance Officer (One Position)

Reports to: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance & HR)

Requirements for Appointment to this Position:

  • Must be a committed Christian
  • Must be a holder of CPA(K)
  • A Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance or its equivalent from a recognized University
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience
  • Must be a registered member of ICPAK or an equivalent professional body
  • Practical knowledge of ICT in a relevant area is mandatory
  • Proven numerical competence, mentorship, and supervision skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Finance Officer is answerable to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance, and HR) for overall accounting and financial functions of a large section. The holder of this post will be responsible for:
  • The organization structure of the accounting and finance unit that facilitates communication, delegation of authority, scope of responsibility, and segregation of duties
  • Implementation of an adequate accounting system as a means of maintaining sound financial records, which must recognize, classify, post, summarize, and report transactions
  • Overall operation and supervision of the finance function in the system
  • Maintenance of high accounting standards and integrity within the department
  • Budget preparations
  • Posting of data into ACCPAC accounting software
  • Assisting the Finance Officer in implementing financial policies
  • Supervision and development of staff in the department
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Vice-Chancellor

2. Registrar – Administration and HR (One Position)

Reports to: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance & HR)

Requirements for Appointment to this Position:

  • Must be a committed Christian
  • Master’s degree with at least five (5) years’ experience in administrative and HR work
  • Must be a registered member of a recognized professional body
  • Must have an HR Practicing license from IHRM
  • Knowledge of management information and communication technologies
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall organization, control, and supervision of administrative functions of the University
  • Policy formulation, interpretation, and implementation of University policies
  • Providing professional advice to University Management on various matters affecting the staff
  • Maintaining high administrative standards in the University
  • Coordinating the running of various departments within the division
  • Setting and coordinating the implementation of targets in the various departments within the division
  • Timely submission of reports
  • Formulation and implementation of the University’s strategic plan
  • Overseeing all the University HR functions
  • Any other duties as assigned by the University Vice-Chancellor


3. Dean of Students (One Position)

Reports to: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs, Research, and Student Affairs)

Position Summary: The Dean of Students is in charge of all duties relating to the welfare, spiritual life, conduct, and discipline of students. The Dean provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in delivering programs and services to support students’ academic achievement and personal and social development.

Requirements for Appointment to this Position:

  • Must be a committed Christian
  • Master’s in Counseling, Education Administration, or any other relevant field from a recognized institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of higher education experience
  • Previous work experience in student affairs is an added advantage

Core Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, managing people, communication, customer and student focus, building relationships, organizing, and planning skills
  • Understanding of the college mission, vision, and practices
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the broader educational and professional communities
  • Support and value ongoing cultural community projects and events
  • Detailed familiarity with the university code of conduct

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for students’ spiritual, physical, emotional, and social welfare and development
  • Secretary of the Student Disciplinary Committee
  • Representing the faculty in Student Association meetings
  • In charge of student accommodation and conduct
  • Coordinating student recreational activities
  • Serving as a member of the Management Board, the Senate, the Admissions Committee, and the Spiritual Ministries Committee
  • Other duties as determined by the University Council or delegated by the Vice-Chancellor


Department of Nursing & Midwifery

4. Lecturers in Nursing (Five Positions)

Report to: Dean, School of Health Sciences

Requirements for Appointment to this Position:

  • Must be a committed Christian
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) from a recognized University in Midwifery, Psychiatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Paediatrics, with at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience at the University level
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized University
  • Valid practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • At least two (2) publications in refereed journals or one (1) book or two (2) book chapters in relevant areas
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learned conferences, seminars, or workshops
  • Active membership in a professional body

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivering lectures, seminars, and tutorials to students and other junior staff
  • Designing, preparing, and developing unit and teaching materials
  • Developing and implementing new teaching methods to reflect changes in research
  • Writing up research and preparing it for publication
  • Assessing students’ coursework and practicals and providing timely feedback
  • Setting, invigilating, and marking assignments, CATs, end-trimester examinations, and practicals
  • Supervising students’ research activities, including final year undergraduate projects
  • Supporting students through mentorship roles
  • Carrying out administrative tasks related to the department, such as student induction programs and involvement in committees and boards
  • Contributing to professional conferences and seminars in areas of specialization
  • Participating in staff training activities
  • Participating in Nursing program curriculum development and review
  • Maintaining professionalism and accountability in the workplace
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the School of Health Sciences


5. Clinical Instructors (Two Positions)

Report to: HOD, Department of Nursing & Midwifery

Requirements for Appointment to this Position:

  • Must be a committed Christian
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized university
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience at a recognized and busy hospital since graduation
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Valid practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Membership in a professional body
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learned conferences
  • Teaching experience may be an added advantage

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engaging in curriculum and program review to enhance best practices
  • Ensuring consistent Christian behavior in line with the university’s vision and mission
  • Evaluating students through continuous assessments and examinations in skills lab and clinical settings
  • Facilitating teaching and learning in clinical and classroom practicum sessions
  • Implementing change initiatives to achieve desired university strategic goals
  • Mentoring students in academic and spiritual nurture


6. Skills Lab Manager (One Position)

Report to: HOD, Department of Nursing & Midwifery

Requirements for Appointment to this Position:

  • Must be a committed Christian
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized university
  • Registered nurse with the regulatory body with a valid license
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience
  • Experience in nursing education
  • Previous supervisory experience of nursing students
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in computer applications and learning management systems
  • Knowledge of nursing curriculum and standards of care
  • Experience with simulation equipment and technology
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and managing lab schedules to accommodate student and faculty needs
  • Ensuring the lab is clean, safe, and well-maintained
  • Overseeing the procurement, maintenance, and inventory of lab equipment and supplies
  • Collaborating with faculty to develop and update lab curriculum
  • Creating and implementing realistic simulation scenarios to enhance student learning
  • Developing and maintaining a variety of learning resources to support skill acquisition
  • Supervising students during lab sessions, providing guidance and feedback
  • Developing and administering skill competency assessments
  • Collecting and analyzing student feedback to improve lab experiences


7. Lab Assistant for Microbiology Lab (One Position)

Report to: Dean, School of Health Sciences

Requirements for Appointment to this Position:

  • Must be a committed Christian
  • Bachelor of Science in a relevant field, such as Analytic Chemistry, Applied Biology, or Science Laboratory
  • Prior experience in a tertiary learning institution
  • Diploma in Analytic Chemistry, Applied Biology, or Science Laboratory is an added advantage
  • Computer literacy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • At least 3 years of working experience in a laboratory

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setting up the equipment in the microbiology labs before demonstrations
  • Preparing equipment and chemicals before practical sessions
  • Maintaining/custodian of equipment and laboratory apparatus in the assigned laboratory
  • Performing operator maintenance and scheduling regular maintenance as required
  • Record keeping for students’ practical sessions, tracking methods, results, etc.
  • Ensuring equipment and laboratories are properly cleaned and chemicals, drugs, and other materials are appropriately stored
  • Cataloguing recordings and making them available when requested
  • Supporting the work of lecturers in laboratory sessions and giving technical advice to staff and students
  • Reporting equipment failure to the Senior Technologist
  • Assisting students to carry out research projects
  • Management of stock control of chemicals and equipment
