AIRPORT MANAGER, JOMO KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (JKIA) – REF: AM-JKIA/02/JUNE 2024

Introduction:

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), established in 1991 under the KAA Act Cap 395, is dedicated to providing facilitative infrastructure for aviation services in Kenya. We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as an Airport Manager for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Job Purpose:

As the Airport Manager for JKIA, you will oversee the safe and efficient operations of the airport on a daily basis, managing both passenger and cargo hubs. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all aspects of the airport adhere to established regulations and standards of customer service. Collaborating with employees, service providers, and various stakeholders, including commercial entities, government bodies, regulatory authorities, security agencies, and the community, you will strive to provide exceptional, seamless, safe, and efficient services to passengers and customers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Manage and ensure compliance with Civil Aviation Standards and Recommended Practices in facilitation, security, safety, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Management: Prepare, implement, and monitor the airport’s operating and capital budgets to maximize financial performance.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Develop and implement robust partnerships with airport stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement the Airport Strategic Plan to drive long-term growth and sustainability.
  • Environmental Management: Develop and implement an airport environmental program to promote sustainability.
  • Facility Management: Develop and implement facility management plans to maintain airport infrastructure.
  • Financial Performance: Maximize the overall financial performance of the airport through strategic initiatives.

Person Specification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Engineering, Economics, or related field, with a relevant Master’s degree preferred.
  • Relevant certification in Airport Operations, Aviation Safety, Aviation Security, or Civil Aviation Management is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant working experience, with at least eight (8) years in a senior management/leadership position.
  • Proficiency in IT, particularly in highly automated ERP environments such as SAP, is essential.

  • Strong strategic execution and analytical skills.
  • Effective people management and coaching abilities.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in financial management and risk management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership qualities with a collaborative approach to teamwork.

Chapter Six Requirements:

Shortlisted candidates must possess valid certifications, including a Tax Compliance Certificate, Police Clearance Certificate, Self-Declaration Form from the Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission, Certificate of Clearance from Higher Education Loans Board, and Clearance Certificate from a recognized Credit Reference Bureau.

Package Details:

The position offers a three (3) year contract term renewable subject to satisfactory performance or attainment of the mandatory retirement age, whichever occurs earlier.
