Position: Investment Associate Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Job Summary: KawiSafi Ventures is seeking a dynamic Investment Associate to join our Nairobi-based investment team. This exceptional opportunity will allow you to collaborate with an international team and contribute to the growth of an organization with a profound global impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and Pipeline:

  • Contribute to sub-sector strategies, gather and synthesize market intelligence, and conduct comprehensive industry analyses.
  • Evaluate potential investments, meet with entrepreneurs, and review pitch materials.

Due Diligence and Deal Execution:

  • Conduct thorough due diligence on target companies, including market and competitive analysis, meetings with management teams, site visits, and customer interviews.
  • Coordinate diligence requests and responses from target companies, overseeing the transaction data room.
  • Develop and review financial models, perform analysis and stress tests, and prepare investment memos for the Fund’s investment committee.
  • Collaborate with legal and ESG advisors to prepare essential investment documentation.

Portfolio Management:

  • Support in monitoring the Fund’s portfolio of investees.
  • Review investee reports and board materials.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget, compliance with covenants, and performance thresholds, conducting flag analysis.
  • Coordinate quarterly data requests and analyze gathered data.
  • Update the Fund’s portfolio management systems as needed.

Your Experience and Skills: We are looking for a qualified professional who possesses the following:

  • University degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a fund, corporate finance advisory, investment bank, management consulting, or related roles, including clean technology start-ups.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and excellent financial modeling and Excel skills.
  • Proficiency in valuing private companies.
  • Exceptional business communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work within deadlines, and effectively manage time.
  • A collaborative and hands-on approach, comfortable in a small team.
  • A demonstrated interest in climate change-related trends and technologies/business models addressing climate change is preferred.
