Introduction
The African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) is a specialized technical office under the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (DARBE) of the African Union Commission (AUC). AU-IBAR’s mission is to optimize the utilization of livestock, fisheries, and wildlife resources for economic development and human well-being across African Union Member States (AU-MS) and Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
AU-IBAR operates through various projects, fostering partnerships, undertaking extensive procurement, and supporting implementing partners with grants and agreements. The IT Junior Consultant role is pivotal in providing exceptional IT services to internal staff and partners, ensuring operational excellence and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
As the IT Junior Consultant, you will report to the Systems Administrator and work closely with the broader team to deliver the following:
1. IT Equipment Setup and Maintenance
- Installation and Configuration:
- Assist in the setup of printers and UPS systems.
- Ensure devices are properly connected to the network and fully operational.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
- Conduct regular checks on printers and UPS systems.
- Identify and resolve technical issues to maintain uninterrupted functionality.
2. Training and Capacity Building
- Design Training Programs:
- Develop structured training sessions tailored to diverse skill levels and job roles.
- Training Material Preparation:
- Create comprehensive training resources, including presentations and handouts.
- Facilitate Workshops:
- Conduct virtual or in-person training sessions to enhance staff proficiency in software applications.
- Maintain detailed records of training attendance and progress.
- Personalized Training:
- Provide one-on-one coaching for staff requiring additional support.
- Feedback Collection and Improvement:
- Gather participant feedback to refine training programs and materials for optimal effectiveness.
3. Helpdesk Support and Technical Assistance
- Helpdesk Management:
- Monitor and respond to IT-related helpdesk tickets, ensuring timely issue resolution.
- Technical Support:
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network connectivity issues.
- Software Updates:
- Assist with installing and updating software across various platforms.
4. Server Room Monitoring
- Environmental Checks:
- Regularly assess server room conditions, including temperature monitoring.
- Air Conditioning Maintenance:
- Ensure the proper functioning of air conditioning units to maintain an optimal environment.
5. Additional Duties
- Perform other IT-related tasks as assigned by the Director of AU-IBAR to support organizational goals.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Requirements
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Preferred: Postgraduate degree in Computer Science or related disciplines.
Professional Experience
- General Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience in IT support.
- Proven ability to manage helpdesk tickets and resolve IT issues efficiently.
- Strong problem-solving skills for hardware, software, and network troubleshooting.
- Specific Experience:
- Expertise in developing training programs tailored to different roles and skill levels.
- Experience monitoring server room environments and maintaining related infrastructure.
- Proficiency in collecting feedback and improving training methodologies.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in at least one African Union working language: English, French, Arabic, or Portuguese (both oral and written).
