Role Overview
Are you a proficient French interpreter seeking an impactful role in an international organization? Join our French Interpretation Unit within the Division of Conference Services at UNON. As an Interpreter, your responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities
- Meeting Excellence: Interpret up to seven meetings per week (occasionally eight) with an average duration of three hours each.
- Language Expertise: Provide precise interpretation from English and Russian to French.
- Critical Meetings: Routinely cover sensitive meetings and function as the team leader for interpreters at such events.
- Leadership Opportunity: May be called upon to lead teams during missions.
- Talent Development: Assist in the screening, training, and examining of prospective French interpreters, offering guidance and coaching to junior interpreters.
- Versatile Role: May perform other related duties as required.
Job Qualifications
1. Education
- A first-level degree from a university or equivalent institution is required.
- A Master’s degree is desirable.
2. Job-Specific Qualification
- Successful completion of the United Nations Competitive Examination for French Interpreters is required.
3. Work Experience
- A minimum of five years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations is required.
- Experience in accurate interpretation of a broad range of UN subjects is desirable.
- Experience in training and coaching interpreter trainees and junior staff interpreters is also desirable.
- Experience in grading interpretation exams and/or assessing freelance colleagues’ performance is a plus.
4. Languages
- Fluent in French, with a strong command expected as your main language.
- Excellent knowledge of English and Russian.
Assessment
Qualified candidates may undergo an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview.
