Job Overview
The Internship Futuremakers RISE role supports the Futuremakers Kenya Programme, focusing on inclusive and responsive strategies to meet the needs of persons with disabilities and marginalized communities. This full-time internship will span 12 months and provide the intern with valuable experience in programme implementation, coordination with partners, and active involvement in advocacy initiatives.
The internship will provide extensive learning opportunities and practical exposure to development work, focusing on the integration and support of job seekers with disabilities. The role is based at Sightsavers’ Kenya Country Office and involves collaboration with the Futuremakers Programme Team, external partners, and other stakeholders.
Principal Accountabilities
- Ensure the successful implementation of activities according to the approved workplan.
- Assist with mobilization, selection, training, follow-up, and monitoring of job seekers with disabilities in key capacity-building initiatives like Accenture S2S, Yusudi, and the IT Bridge Academy.
- Provide support for day-to-day engagement with Bridge IT Academy at NITA and the virtual CCST project.
- Maintain up-to-date participant and employer databases.
- Coordinate and participate in meetings with partners, government agencies, and stakeholders.
- Assist in the planning and coordination of awareness and advocacy activities.
- Identify challenges and opportunities to achieve the set programme objectives.
- Contribute to advocacy initiatives aimed at empowering persons with disabilities.
- Participate in report writing and the preparation of programme-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Programme Implementation: Provide support in implementing project activities, ensuring they align with the approved workplan and focus on inclusivity for persons with disabilities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with partners, government agencies, and NGOs to enhance coordination and ensure effective service delivery.
- Training and Facilitation: Assist in the training and capacity building of job seekers with disabilities, offering hands-on support for their integration into the workforce.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor progress, compile data, and draft reports summarizing project activities.
- Advocacy: Participate in advocacy efforts that promote social inclusion and access to employment opportunities for marginalized communities.
Jobholder Requirements
Essential:
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience in social sciences, with an interest in disability advocacy, social inclusion, or similar fields.
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently to meet daily and weekly deadlines.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with stakeholders and community members.
- Experience or proficiency in training and facilitation.
Desirable:
- A strong passion for advocacy and experience working with persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups.
- Report writing and communication skills, especially related to programme management.
- Enthusiastic about learning all aspects of programme facilitation, management, and reporting.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
