Introduction

Amref Health Africa is Africa’s largest international health non-governmental organization (NGO), recognized for driving innovative solutions in health systems strengthening across the continent. The Kenya program, with an annual budget of USD 40 million, is the oldest and largest country office in Africa. We seek a motivated Intern – Primary Health Care (PHC) to join our dynamic team. Key Responsibilities

1. Research and Analysis

  • Conduct in-depth research on health systems strengthening, policy development, innovative approaches, and service delivery models.
  • Analyze and interpret data to contribute to evidence-based resources that support strategic decision-making in PHC.

2. Knowledge Generation

  • Assist in creating knowledge products, including policy briefs, blogs, articles, case studies, and presentations.
  • Translate complex research findings into accessible formats for various stakeholders.

3. Knowledge Management

  • Support the collection, organization, and updating of strategies and policy documents.
  • Assist in maintaining knowledge platforms and participate in strategic discussions within the PHC unit.

4. Advocacy Support

  • Contribute to developing advocacy materials and strategies aimed at promoting PHC and health systems strengthening (HSS).
  • Collaborate on communication strategies to raise awareness about PHC initiatives.

5. Collaboration

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams across Amref’s directorates to integrate diverse perspectives into PHC-related projects.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration within the organization.

6. Event Participation

  • Participate in and, where applicable, support organizing workshops, webinars, and conferences related to PHC and HSS.
  • Assist in aligning strategic objectives and disseminating evidence-based insights.

7. Strategy Alignment

  • Support the HSS Directorate in technical assistance, strategic alignment, and the generation and dissemination of evidence for health systems strengthening.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in public health, health policy, international development, or a related field.

Key Competencies

  • Demonstrated understanding of Primary Health Care, health systems strengthening, and global/regional health issues in African contexts.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with a proven ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software applications.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with African health systems, policies, and development challenges.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
