About the Role

Job Summary

As an Intern in Advocacy and Knowledge Management, you will be a vital part of the SDG Localization and Local Governments Team & SDG Cities Flagship team. You will support various initiatives to empower local and regional governments to localize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This role involves assisting with event preparation, partner coordination, content creation, and supporting senior management in advocacy processes.

Key Responsibilities

Advocacy and Knowledge Management

  • Event Participation: Assist in writing concept notes and preparing for events like the World Urban Forum and the High-Level Political Forum.
  • Partner Coordination: Support logistics and partner involvement for various events.
  • Content Creation: Update website content, prepare briefing notes, concept notes, and minutes.
  • Publications and Processes: Contribute to internal UN-Habitat publications and other corporate processes.
  • Speaker Coordination: Identify speakers and coordinate invitations for events organized by the team.
  • Mobilization: Assist in the mobilization of partners and participants for the team’s activities.
  • Senior Management Support: Support senior management in event and advocacy processes.
  • Review and Alignment: Assist in reviewing knowledge products and corporate material to ensure alignment with the team’s narrative on SDG Localization.

Qualifications and Skills

Educational Requirements

  • Current Enrollment: Must be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • Recent Graduates: Recent graduates with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, or equivalent are also eligible.

Preferred Areas of Study

  • Relevant Coursework: Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Communications & Media, Development Studies, or other relevant areas.

Technical Skills

  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other standard software applications.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong understanding of tailoring language based on the audience.
  • Event Management: Understanding of event management, outreach, partnership building, and stakeholder engagement.

Additional Requirements

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Commitment: Demonstrated personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.

Language Requirements

  • Primary Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Secondary Language: Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Intern Specific Information
