ABOUT PLAN INTERNATIONAL KENYA (PIK)

Plan International Kenya operates mainly in 12 Counties, including Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Tharaka-Nithi, Siaya, Kwale, Kilifi, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Tana River, Turkana, and Marsabit. Our strategic goal for the next five years is to end teenage pregnancies and all forms of sexual and gender-based violence against adolescent girls and young women.

THE ROLE: Influencing & Advocacy Advisor

The Influencing & Advocacy Advisor will be a critical player in ensuring Plan International Kenya’s leading role in promoting child rights and influencing policies, legislation, and partnerships for the realization of child rights in the country. This position will focus on quality right-based programming and fostering collaboration with civil societies and government institutions to advance child rights.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE

Qualifications/Experience Essential:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Development Studies, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership/managerial role.
  3. Proven experience in advocacy and influencing work at the national level.
  4. At least 5 years of relevant work experience in girls and child rights programming.
  5. Clear understanding of legislative/budget-making processes at national and county levels.
  6. Familiarity with treaty reporting processes and mobilizing CSOs/children for meaningful participation.
  7. Knowledge and experience in child rights programming and rights-based approaches.
  8. Experience in child rights advocacy assignments at the regional level (an added advantage).
  9. Experience working with civil society and community-based organizations, particularly in Kenya.
  10. Expertise in developing partnership strategies and providing capacity building for local partners.
  11. Strong analysis of Child Rights Governance data and ability to communicate effectively.
  12. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including influencing and negotiation.
  13. Excellent cultural awareness and ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds, especially children and young people.
  14. Results-oriented mindset, challenging existing mindsets when needed.
  15. Problem-solving skills, defining clear paths forward and ensuring buy-in.
  16. Ability to present complex information concisely and compellingly.
  17. Commitment to Plan values and adherence to Child and Young People Safeguarding Policy, holding others accountable.

Languages Required:

Fluency in English (verbal and written), knowledge of Swahili language required.

Qualifications/Experience Desirable:

Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Law, Development Studies, or related field.
