Key Responsibilities

As our Human Resource/Fairtrade Officer, you will be instrumental in managing HR processes and ensuring compliance with Fairtrade standards at the farm level. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Recruitment Coordination: Oversee all recruitment processes within the farm, ensuring the attraction and retention of top talent.
  • Performance Management: Coordinate and track staff performance assessments, providing timely feedback and ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Probation Reviews: Collaborate with department heads to conduct timely performance appraisals for staff on probation.
  • Job Description Evaluation: Regularly assess staff job descriptions to ensure individual KPIs align with overall company objectives.
  • Staff Welfare Meetings: Coordinate all staff welfare meetings, promptly addressing issues and providing timely feedback.
  • Retention Strategy Development: Develop and implement effective staff retention strategies to maintain top talent within the organization.
  • Administrative Compliance: Ensure all staff administrative processes, including separations, comply with Kenyan labor laws.
  • Training and Development: Identify skill gaps and coordinate training programs to enhance staff competencies.
  • Fairtrade Awareness: Promote awareness of Fairtrade practices among workers and assist in preparing for both internal and external Fairtrade audits.
  • Fairtrade Coordination: Serve as the liaison between the Fairtrade Premium Committee (FPC) and management, attending FPC meetings as the management representative.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Act as a conduit between Fairtrade International, certification bodies, workers, and managers on all Fairtrade matters.
  • Productivity and Professional Development: Ensure employees work productively and have opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Educational Background: Degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management.
  • Professional Experience: 3-5 years of HR experience in a farm setting of similar capacity.
  • Professional Membership: Active member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) in good standing.
  • Fairtrade Experience: Previous experience with Fairtrade standards is a significant advantage.
  • Labor Law Knowledge: Strong understanding of Kenyan labor laws and HR best practices.
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership and management capabilities to guide and motivate staff.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to assess and improve HR processes.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Language Proficiency: Good command of the English language.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
