Key Job Roles and Responsibilities

1. Chef

As a Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring the quality of food meets our high standards, and managing kitchen staff.

  • Oversee food preparation and ensure that dishes are prepared to the restaurant’s exacting standards.
  • Coordinate kitchen activities and ensure the efficient flow of production.
  • Supervise junior kitchen staff including Commis Chefs and Pastry Chefs.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety standards are adhered to.
  • Collaborate with the restaurant management to design new menu offerings.
  • Manage inventory and supplies.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a fine dining restaurant or hotel is a plus.
  • Culinary certification is required.
  • Leadership and time management skills are essential.

2. Commis Chef

As a Commis Chef, you will assist senior chefs in preparing food, ensuring that every dish is crafted with precision and care.

  • Assist the head chef and Sous Chefs in preparing ingredients.
  • Learn and master specific kitchen stations.
  • Adhere to hygiene standards and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
  • Prepare basic dishes according to established recipes.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Relevant culinary certificate.
  • Teamwork and eagerness to learn are key for this role.
  • Prior experience in a restaurant or hotel kitchen is advantageous.

3. Pastry Chef

The Pastry Chef will be responsible for creating a variety of baked goods and desserts, ensuring that they meet the high standards of presentation and taste expected by our clientele.

  • Design and execute pastry offerings including cakes, tarts, and desserts.
  • Monitor the quality of ingredients used in pastry preparations.
  • Create custom orders for special events.
  • Work closely with other chefs to complement the overall menu.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Pastry certification is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a fine dining setting preferred.
  • Creativity and attention to detail are essential.

4. Steward

As a Steward, your role is crucial to ensuring that the kitchen and dining areas are clean and well-maintained.

  • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, including dishwashing and sanitizing workstations.
  • Support kitchen staff by organizing and replenishing supplies.
  • Follow all safety and hygiene protocols.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • No formal education is required, but previous experience in a restaurant kitchen is beneficial.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is a must.

5. Runner

As a Runner, your primary responsibility is to assist waitstaff and ensure the efficient delivery of orders.

  • Assist in delivering food and beverages from the kitchen to tables.
  • Ensure that the dining area is always well-stocked and clean.
  • Support the waitstaff with guest requests and orders.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced restaurant is advantageous.

6. Waiter/Waitress

As a Waiter/Waitress, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that guests have a memorable dining experience by providing exceptional customer service.

  • Take orders and provide information on menu offerings.
  • Serve food and beverages promptly and courteously.
  • Upsell menu items and suggest dishes to guests.
  • Handle customer queries and complaints professionally.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience in the hospitality industry is essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili is preferred.

7. Barista

As a Barista, you will be crafting quality coffee beverages for our guests while ensuring that the coffee bar operates smoothly.

  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the coffee bar and equipment.
  • Engage with guests and suggest drink pairings with desserts.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Barista in a high-end restaurant or café.
  • Knowledge of coffee brewing techniques and latte art is a plus.

8. Supervisor

The Supervisor ensures that daily operations run smoothly and that both staff and guests are satisfied.

  • Manage the staff schedules and oversee daily operations.
  • Coordinate between the kitchen and front-of-house teams.
  • Monitor inventory and report any issues to the management.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by addressing issues immediately.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role in the hospitality industry.
  • Leadership and problem-solving skills are crucial.

9. Cashier

As a Cashier, you will handle all transactions and ensure that guests receive quick and accurate service at checkout.

  • Handle guest payments and issue receipts.
  • Manage the point-of-sale system and balance cash registers.
  • Assist in guest inquiries and offer additional services when needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience working in a similar role is an advantage.

Qualifications for All Positions

  • High School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Relevant certifications depending on the position, such as a culinary certificate or a food handler’s license.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the restaurant industry. A bonus would be 5+ years of experience, especially in fine dining restaurants or hotels.
