As we continue to grow, we seek an experienced and dynamic Health and Safety Supervisor to join our team in the EAC Kenya – South Sudan Link Road (A1) Project: Upgrading of Kitale-Morpus Road.
Role Overview
As the Health and Safety Supervisor, you will oversee the implementation of the occupational health and safety plan on-site and within the Project Area. You will conduct risk assessments, provide training, monitor compliance, investigate incidents, and ensure emergency preparedness in the workplace. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of employees and community members. Key Responsibilities
Accountability for Health and Safety Performance
- Monitor and evaluate health and safety performance to ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
- Regularly review and update safety protocols and procedures.
Conduct Health and Safety Meetings
- Organize and lead regular health and safety meetings with staff and stakeholders to discuss safety practices and concerns.
- Provide updates on health and safety performance and initiatives.
Enforce Safe Work Procedures
- Ensure that all work activities comply with established safety procedures.
- Develop and implement new safety procedures as necessary.
Address Unsafe Acts and Conditions
- Identify and rectify unsafe acts and conditions on-site promptly.
- Promote a culture of safety and vigilance among employees.
Provide Health and Safety Instruction
- Deliver training sessions on health and safety topics to employees and contractors.
- Ensure that all staff members understand and comply with safety regulations.
Conduct Daily Safety Inspections
- Perform daily inspections of the site to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Document inspection findings and corrective actions taken.
Oversee Equipment and Tool Safety
- Ensure that all equipment and tools are maintained in safe working order.
- Conduct regular checks and maintenance of safety equipment.
Induct New Employees
- Conduct safety inductions for all new employees to familiarize them with safety protocols and procedures.
- Ensure new hires understand their roles and responsibilities concerning health and safety.
Provide On-the-Job Safety Training
- Offer continuous on-the-job training to reinforce safety practices and address any knowledge gaps.
- Adapt training to address specific risks and challenges identified on-site.
Monitor Employee Health
- Monitor the health and well-being of employees, particularly those exposed to hazardous conditions.
- Implement measures to protect employee health and ensure compliance with health regulations.
Enforce PPE Usage
- Ensure that all employees and visitors use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Conduct regular checks to ensure compliance with PPE requirements.
Manage Injuries and Incidents
- Respond promptly to any injuries or incidents, providing first aid and arranging for further medical treatment if necessary.
- Ensure that all incidents are properly documented and reported.
Incident Investigation
- Conduct thorough investigations of any safety incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Implement corrective actions and share lessons learned with the team.
Qualifications
- A degree or certification in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, such as OSHA.
- Previous experience in a safety-related role, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in large construction or infrastructure projects.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
