About the Role
Are you ready to ignite positive change in the clean cooking sector? Burn is in search of a passionate and highly skilled Head of Strategic Partnerships and Grants. In this senior management role, you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact by driving our mission to provide clean cooking solutions. As a key player in our team, you will be responsible for managing the full grant cycle, nurturing vital strategic partnerships, and securing funding to further our clean cooking initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Partnership Development
- Global Partnerships: Spearhead the development of strategic global partnerships within the clean cooking sector.
- Relationship Management: Provide steadfast support in maintaining close relationships with high-level stakeholders across diverse organizations.
- New Partnerships: Identify and develop new strategic partnerships aligned with BURN’s company strategy.
- Representation: Act as the face of BURN at conferences and events in Kenya and abroad, presenting compelling pitches to external parties.
Pitch Material Design & Development
- Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing team to design and develop effective project and partnership proposals.
- Material Maintenance: Maintain and update pitch materials that are crucial for securing multi-million-dollar partnerships and projects.
Strategic Projects/Initiatives
- Market Expansion: Assist the Commercial team in planning, implementing, and tracking strategic projects and initiatives across various geographical markets.
- Liaison Role: Act as an organizer and liaison between BURN’s senior management, commercial, carbon, and special project/grants teams.
Information Gathering
- Market Insight: Gather critical market information on the clean cooking sector, carbon offsetting market, distribution partners, competitor activity, and aid and development industries.
Reporting/Forecasting
- Analytical Reports: Produce regular analytical reports and ad-hoc research papers on key partnerships, business development updates, market landscape, and monthly forecasting.
- Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to the grants team in achieving departmental objectives.
Grant Management
- End-to-End Management: Manage the complete grant cycle, including solicitation, pre-award, award, monitoring, compliance, reporting, and close-out.
- Diversifying Funding: Research and develop a portfolio of donors to diversify funding sources.
- Proposal Crafting: Identify new funding opportunities, plan, write, prepare, and present grant proposals, including budgets and timelines.
- Stewardship: Ensure donor expectations are met through follow-through and stewardship for multiple grants/gifts.
- Strategic Proposals: Manage the proposal development and submission process, crafting compelling grant proposals that align with BURN’s mission and donor objectives.
- Supporting Documents: Provide prospective funders with necessary supporting documents.
- Revenue Goals: Execute tailored solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship plans for each grant to meet revenue goals.
Skills and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in partnership development, business development, and grant management.
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in securing grants and cultivating strategic partnerships.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Project Management: Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Sector Knowledge: Knowledge of the clean cooking sector and related markets is a plus.
- Team Player: Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in grant management software and databases.
- Travel: Willingness to travel as needed.
