GENDER SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY

As a Gender Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in crafting and implementing a robust Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Strategy within the Empowering Youth in Sustainable Aquaculture Markets and Jobs Creation project. This initiative aims to revolutionize perceptions surrounding aquaculture by empowering young individuals, particularly women, to harness the vast opportunities within the sector. Your primary objective will be to foster inclusivity and dismantle socio-cultural barriers, ensuring equal participation and representation.

KEY TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Direct Contribution to Project Outputs:

  • Conduct a comprehensive gender analysis to identify gaps and develop tools for addressing them.
  • Lead the planning and execution of GESI activities, providing strategic guidance to project partners.
  • Disseminate updates on GESI-related policies and guidelines, facilitating the integration of gender considerations.
  • Provide training on gender and youth mainstreaming to enhance program management.
  • Coordinate consortium partners to ensure GESI-responsive planning and implementation.

2. Support to Project Partners:

  • Collaborate in formulating a strategy for mainstreaming GESI and oversee its implementation.
  • Facilitate awareness sessions on GESI for local implementing partners.
  • Work with Monitoring and Reporting Experts to ensure impact measurement focuses on vulnerable groups.
  • Build capacity among project staff on GESI principles and practices.

3. Resource Material Production:

  • Support the development and upkeep of knowledge products on relevant GESI issues.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices for the project’s continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

ACADEMIC:

  • Master’s Degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Project Management, Development, Law, or related fields.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in Gender Equity and Social Inclusion.
  • Strong writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in organizational, advocacy, and engagement skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of gender transformative approaches and gender mainstreaming.
