Job Summary
As a Gardener at Keda (Kenya) Ceramics Company Ltd, your primary role will be to ensure the aesthetic and functional maintenance of the company’s green spaces. This includes managing the installation, care, and health of seasonal plants, maintaining garden equipment, and ensuring that all green areas are well-kept. The role requires a person who is passionate about gardening and landscaping, with an eye for detail and a commitment to creating a pleasant environment around the company premises.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and Maintain Seasonal Plants: You will be responsible for planting, watering, and ensuring the growth of seasonal plants around the company premises.
- Mow, Trim, and Fertilize Green Spaces: Regular mowing, trimming, and fertilizing of lawns and other green spaces will be required to maintain a clean and attractive environment.
- Mulch, Edge, and Weed Gardens: Regular maintenance of garden beds through mulching, edging, and weeding will be a key part of your responsibilities.
- Prune and Trim Trees and Bushes: Pruning trees and bushes will be essential to promote healthy growth and keep the landscape looking neat and tidy.
- Maintain Gardening Equipment and Machinery: Regular servicing and maintenance of gardening equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers will be necessary to ensure they function efficiently.
- Monitor and Maintain the Health of Plants: You will be responsible for identifying plant health issues and taking preventive actions, such as applying fertilizers and pesticides when needed.
- Deal with Pest Problems: Addressing any pest infestations that could harm plants and working with the facilities team to implement pest control measures.
- Additional Tasks: Assist the Facilities Department with any other gardening or landscaping-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Educational Background: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Diploma or Degree in Landscape Design, Horticulture, or any other related field is preferred.
- Experience: At least 1 year of proven experience as a Gardener or in a related landscaping role is essential.
- Knowledge of Landscaping Design: Familiarity with landscape design principles is an advantage.
- Pest Control Knowledge: Understanding how to identify and manage common garden pests to maintain healthy plants.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: Good knowledge of Kenya’s state health and safety regulations related to landscaping and gardening.
Key Competencies
- Attention to Detail: The ability to maintain green spaces to a high standard by paying attention to small details.
- Physical Stamina: Gardening requires physical endurance, so the ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods is essential.
- Teamwork: The ability to work collaboratively with other members of the facilities and landscaping team.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to follow instructions and coordinate with team members.
- Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues related to plant health, pests, or equipment maintenance.
