Role Overview

As a Gardener at CHG, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the hospital’s gardens and landscapes. Your work will contribute significantly to creating a calming and therapeutic environment for our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Care

• Planting: Plant, prune, trim, and fertilize various types of plants, flowers, shrubs, and trees according to their specific needs and seasonal requirements.
• Pruning and Trimming: Ensure plants maintain their shape and health by regular pruning and trimming.

Lawn Maintenance

• Mowing: Mow, edge, aerate, and apply fertilizers and pesticides to lawns to promote healthy growth and maintain a desirable appearance.
• Lawn Care: Implement measures to keep lawns lush and free of weeds and pests.

Soil Management

• Soil Quality Assessment: Assess soil quality and composition.
• Soil Optimization: Implement measures such as mulching, watering, and soil amendment to optimize plant growth and health.

Pest and Weed Control

• Monitoring: Monitor for pests, diseases, and invasive weeds.
• Control Measures: Implement appropriate control measures to mitigate damage and preserve plant health.

Landscaping

• Design and Implementation: Design and implement landscape plans, including layout, planting schemes, and installation of features such as pathways, retaining walls, and decorative elements.
• Aesthetic Enhancements: Ensure the hospital grounds are aesthetically pleasing and therapeutic.

Equipment Maintenance

• Tool Operation: Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, and hand tools.
• Maintenance: Ensure all gardening tools and equipment are in good working condition.

Safety and Compliance

• Safety Protocols: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations related to gardening activities.
• Chemical Handling: Proper handling and storage of chemicals and equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Previous experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticulture preferred.
• Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of plant species, growth habits, and care requirements.
• Skills: Familiarity with gardening techniques, tools, and equipment.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and operating machinery.
• Certification: Certification or training in horticulture or landscaping is a plus.
