Key Responsibilities

Freshness and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure Constant Freshness: Regularly monitor and maintain the freshness of deli products to meet the highest standards of quality.
  • Product Availability: Ensure that all deli items are consistently available to customers, minimizing stockouts and maximizing customer satisfaction.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular checks to ensure that all products meet the company’s quality benchmarks.

Customer Service Excellence

  • Engage with Customers: Provide outstanding customer service by interacting with customers, understanding their needs, and offering suitable product recommendations.
  • Service with a Smile: Maintain a positive attitude and a professional demeanor, ensuring that every customer has a pleasant experience at our deli.
  • Customer Feedback: Actively seek and act on customer feedback to improve service quality and product offerings.

Basic Arithmetic and Inventory Management

  • Accurate Measurements: Utilize basic math skills to accurately measure ingredients and portion products.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory, ensuring that stock levels are adequate to meet demand.
  • Stock Rotation: Implement effective stock rotation practices to ensure that older products are used or sold first, minimizing waste.

Problem-Solving Skills

  • Issue Resolution: Quickly identify and resolve any issues related to product quality, customer service, or inventory.
  • Proactive Approach: Anticipate potential problems and take proactive steps to prevent them.

Technical Requirements

Baking Process Expertise

  • Understanding of Baking Processes: Have a solid knowledge of baking processes, including mixing, proofing, and baking.
  • Precision in Baking: Ensure precision in every step of the baking process to produce consistently high-quality products.
  • Recipe Adherence: Follow recipes meticulously to maintain product consistency and quality.

Roles Considered

  • Baker: Responsible for the actual baking of products, ensuring they meet the desired standards.
  • Assistant Baker: Assists in various baking tasks, such as finishing products, packaging, and labeling.

Qualifications and Skills

Educational Background

  • Certificate or Diploma: A certificate or diploma in baking or pastry arts from a recognized institution is required.
  • Internship Experience: A minimum of 6 months to 1 year of internship experience in a related field is preferred.

Grooming and Hygiene

  • Adherence to Standards: Maintain high standards of personal grooming and hygiene, especially when handling food products.
  • Proper Attire: Wear appropriate baking attire, including hairnets, gloves, and aprons, to ensure food safety.

Attitude and Collaboration

  • Positive Attitude: Exhibit a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and follow instructions.
  • Team Player: Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve common goals.

Food Safety Knowledge

  • Food Safety Practices: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of food safety practices, including proper handling, storage, and preparation of ingredients.

Baking Knowledge and Expertise

Baking Processes

  • Temperature and Time Management: Have a deep understanding of the importance of temperature and time in baking, ensuring products are baked to perfection.
  • Recipe Familiarity: Be familiar with various baking recipes and terminologies, ensuring consistency and quality in every product.

Specialization

  • Pastry, Yeast, or Confectionary: Specialize in at least two areas, such as pastry, yeast products, or confectionary, to bring a diverse skill set to the role.
  • Ingredient Knowledge: Have a comprehensive understanding of various baking ingredients and their proper usage.

Efficiency in Baking Tasks

  • Speed and Precision: Work efficiently and quickly without compromising on quality, ensuring that baking tasks are completed on time.
  • Bakery Process Competence: Be proficient in various bakery processes, including mixing, scaling, dividing, kneading, proofing, baking, slicing, packaging, labeling, storage, and stock rotation.

Recipe Interpretation and Adjustment

  • Recipe Interpretation: Accurately interpret recipes and make necessary adjustments to achieve the desired results.
  • Production Planning: Assist in bakery documentation, including production planning and capacity planning, to ensure smooth operations.

Flexibility in Work Locations

  • Multiple Locations: Be flexible and willing to work in various locations, not limited to Nairobi, to meet the needs of the business.
