About the Role: Finace Manager 

As the Finance Manager, you will report directly to the Director of Finance. Your role is crucial in championing end-to-end financial management and reporting processes. You will collaborate with the managing board and stakeholders, making sound financial decisions, ensuring compliance, and providing oversight for capacity-building activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Financial Management:
    • Oversee project finances, including management, expenditure oversight, accurate financial forecasting and reporting, procurement, and fiduciary risk management.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, performing due diligence.
    • Maintain risk registers for grant portfolios and escalate risks to the project team.
  2. Granting Mechanism Management:
    • Establish and revise processes for the organization’s granting mechanism.
    • Ensure adherence to conflict sensitivity and risk management.
    • Establish or revise grantee due diligence and capacity-building strategies.
  3. Grant Application and Budget Oversight:
    • Oversee grant application and budget submissions, ensuring cost allowability, reasonableness, and consistency.
    • Conduct budget negotiations, securing favorable terms and conditions for the organization and stakeholders.
    • Ensure adherence to Grant Mechanism SOPs, including financial management procedures and grantee procurement procedures.
  4. Grantee Capacity Building:
    • Develop tailored granteecapacity-building plans with input from the study team.
    • Oversee the implementation of capacity-building plans.
  5. Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Produce financial reports related to budgets, accounts payable and receivable, expenses, and long-term business plans.
    • Predict future financial trends and analyze market trends and competitors.
    • Generate monthly financial reports, explaining variances, recommending solutions, and implementing control measures.
  6. Relationship Management:
    • Manage relationships with banks, financial institutions, and external stakeholders for banking services, loans, and financing needs.
    • Advise department heads on financial positions in relation to the overall business strategy.
  7. Compliance and Documentation:
    • Ensure full compliance with NGO Board requirements in Kenya, including proper documentation for annual returns and changes in Boards of Management.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or post-graduate qualification in a relevant field such as Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
  • Registered Member of ICPAK with CPA-K, CA, or ACCA.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience managing large and complex development projects with Non-Governmental Organizations, including 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrable experience in overseeing grant and protocol implementation.
  • Experience in conducting partner capacity assessments and designing and delivering capacity-building plans.
  • Proficiency in English, including report-writing skills.
  • Substantive knowledge and prior experience working on clinical research and medical programs.
  • Experience in managing small teams, including remote management.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, especially MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work within time constraints.
