Introduction

The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), founded in Nairobi in 2008, is dedicated to enhancing citizen empowerment and government accountability in Kenya. With the constitutional reform in 2010, TISA’s mission has been to facilitate the distribution of power from national to county levels through devolution. Our goal is to empower Kenyans, ensure government accountability, and transform the constitution into a living reality.

The Okoa Uchumi Campaign is a civil society platform that addresses Kenya’s public debt crisis. This coalition aims to achieve political accountability and reinforce constitutional safeguards in public debt management through balanced budgeting. We unite civil society efforts, expressing shared concerns and solutions regarding public debt, fostering public discourse through various channels.

Background

Currently, Okoa Uchumi’s microsite presents static data, reports, and a membership link. To enhance user engagement, we’re seeking an upgrade to a more user-friendly, interactive portal. Our vision is to create an intuitive platform presenting simplified, accurate public debt data.

Position Overview

Part A: Research and Analysis

  1. Data Collection and Analysis: Gather data from government portals, IMF, World Bank, and independent sources.
  2. Report Preparation: Translate collected data into reports for integration on the website.

Part B: Website Development

  1. Website Design: Craft a visually appealing and user-friendly design with info graphs.
  2. Database Development: Develop a comprehensive database with analytical and tracking capabilities.
  3. API Development: Create APIs for seamless data integration.
  4. Admin-User Interface: Design intuitive admin and user interfaces.
  5. Front-end Development: Implement a visually striking and user-centric front end.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, software engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in web design, layout, and development.
  • Skills: Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, XHTML, XML.
  • CMS Expertise: Familiarity with CMS (Drupal/WordPress) and web standards.
  • Ethical Awareness: Knowledge of ethical data practices and privacy regulations.
