Are you passionate about driving women’s economic empowerment (WEE) across Africa? AFIDEP is searching for a dedicated Economist to spearhead our innovative initiative in this vital area. As the leading expert, you will be responsible for shaping and executing AFIDEP’s WEE program. Key Responsibilities

1. Landscape Study Design and Implementation

  • Lead the formulation and design of a comprehensive landscape study on WEE in East and West Africa.
  • Conduct rigorous literature reviews, in-depth interviews, and data analysis to inform the study’s findings.
  • Engage with key stakeholders in the African WEE space to gather valuable insights.
  • Effectively communicate study results through stakeholder dialogues, journal publications, and other mediums.

2. WEE Program Development and Implementation

  • Develop AFIDEP’s WEE program strategy based on insights from the landscape study and consultations.
  • Conceptualize research, advocacy, and capacity-building projects under the WEE program.
  • Drive fundraising efforts for WEE projects to ensure their successful execution.
  • Oversee the seamless implementation of WEE projects at AFIDEP.

3. Policymaker Engagement and Data Dissemination

  • Collaborate with government agencies to provide technical support for women’s economic empowerment.
  • Perform macroeconomic analyses to generate evidence for gender-responsive policy-making.
  • Present data and findings through high-quality technical briefs, reports, and presentations.

4. Capacity Development and Learning

  • Design and execute capacity-building initiatives for various stakeholders, enhancing evidence-based decision-making.
  • Monitor and evaluate the WEE program’s progress, integrating emerging lessons into program design.

5. Reporting and Communication

  • Prepare comprehensive progress reports for our funding partners.
  • Foster productive policy dialogues with high-level policymakers, civil society, and the private sector.

Requirements

  • PhD in Economics or related fields (e.g., Gender & Development), with expertise in gender equity and women’s economic empowerment.
  • Alternatively, a Master’s degree in economics or development economics with over 7 years of relevant experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience in gender and development research and advocacy, including 3 years at a senior management level.
  • Strong grasp of gender and macroeconomic policy concepts, with the ability to critically review and analyze policies for gender responsiveness.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving, quantitative analysis, and statistical software usage.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective presentation and report preparation.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, adept at building professional relationships and strong organizational abilities.
  • Proven project management experience, including multi-stakeholder and multi-country research coordination.
  • Self-motivated, capable of prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
