About Us: Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) collaborates closely with UN, governmental, and non-governmental partners to promote humane and orderly migration. As a key UN agency in migration, IOM is committed to providing services and advice to governments and migrants worldwide.
Context: Somalia has witnessed gradual progress in restoring peace and security. IOM Somalia plays a pivotal role in supporting durable solutions to displacement through the Saameynta program, a four-year UN joint initiative. As the lead agency, IOM seeks a Durable Solutions Intern to contribute to Consortium Management Unit activities, focusing on Project Reporting, Communications, and Knowledge Management.
Core Responsibilities:
Program Management Support:
- Contribute to overall UN Joint engagement.
- Collaborate with knowledge partners, implementing partners, donors, and government stakeholders for adaptive programming.
- Assist in the development of strategic plans, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
Relationship Building:
- Foster relationships with various stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and local communities.
- Collaborate across departments and units within IOM to align projects with program goals.
- Support knowledge management through the maintenance of project matrices and institutional memories.
Communications and Reporting:
- Develop communications products showcasing Saameynta Joint Programme activities.
- Aid in data collection, writing, revision, proofreading, and graphics to highlight program success.
- Assist in the editing of donor reports and participate in the finalization process.
Meetings and Administration:
- Prepare and execute internal and external meetings with donors, partners, and government.
- Handle meeting logistics, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, and action point collection.

- Gain on-site experience in an international multicultural environment within the UN system.
- Understand IOM’s work in migration and sustainable development, including cooperation with government partners and UN agencies.
- Acquire technical knowledge in reporting, diverse communications product development, and community-based programming.
- Interact with multi-stakeholder constituents and internal/external partners involved in capacity building, communications, and knowledge-sharing activities.
Qualifications:
Education:
- University degree or master’s degree in International Relations, International Development, Humanities, Law, Political or Social Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
- Six-month professional experience in M&E, reporting, data management, communications, research, strategic planning, or business administration.
- Experience or internship with an International NGO or UN agency is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, communication, and writing skills.
Skills:
- Report writing and proofreading experience.
- Knowledge of Knowledge Management and research activities in Somalia or the region is advantageous.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and other office software packages.
- Digital literacy, including knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is an advantage.
Languages:
- Fluency in English (oral and written); Working proficiency in other UN languages is advantageous.
