About Biovision Africa Trust

Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) is a not-for-profit organization established in Kenya in 2009. BvAT operates in collaboration with the Biovision Foundation for Ecological Development in Switzerland and the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Nairobi, Kenya. BvAT’s mission is to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers across Africa by sharing knowledge on sustainable farming technologies that enhance human, animal, plant, and environmental health.

BvAT operates through three core programs:

  1. The Farmer Communication Programme (FCP): Disseminating farming technologies through print, radio, online platforms, and outreach programs.
  2. Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA): Supporting sustainable agricultural practices across Africa.
  3. Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture (KCOA): Focusing on organic agricultural knowledge dissemination.

About the Assignment

Biovision Africa Trust is producing a documentary to commemorate World Food Day under the theme, “Right to Foods, for a Better Life and a Better Future.” This documentary will highlight the contributions of various stakeholders to this global theme.

To capture key moments in the documentary, BvAT requires the expertise of a Drone Videography Operator to film agricultural drone footage in Nandi County, Kenya.


Key Responsibilities

As the Drone Videography Operator, you will be tasked with capturing high-quality drone shots that align with the documentary’s theme and vision. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Understanding Pre-Production Script: Review and familiarize yourself with the pre-production script to gain insight into the types of shots required.
  2. Drone Filming: Capture creative and visually appealing drone shots in Nandi County as directed by the videography officer.
  3. Data Submission: Submit all raw 4K footage to the videography officer at the end of each day of filming.
  4. Compliance with Regulations: Ensure all drone flight operations comply with local aviation laws and regulations, particularly those set by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
  5. Equipment Maintenance: Properly maintain and troubleshoot any issues with drone equipment during the filming process.

Qualifications and Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. Drone Pilot License/Certificate: Must hold a valid Remote Pilot License (RPL) or Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA) Certificate issued by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
  2. Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience operating various drone models is required. Experience in agricultural or documentary filming is highly desirable.
  3. Knowledge of Aviation Regulations: Must be thoroughly knowledgeable about aviation regulations governing drone operations.
  4. Skills:
    • Quick Decision-Making: Ability to make rapid, informed decisions during drone operations.
    • Hand-Eye Coordination: Exceptional hand-eye coordination to ensure smooth and precise drone maneuvering.
    • Attention to Detail: A strong focus on capturing detailed footage that meets the documentary’s high standards.
    • Professional Ethics: Integrity, initiative, and a strong work ethic are essential in this role.

Deliverables

At the end of the project, the Drone Videography Operator will be required to provide the following deliverables:

  • All raw 4K footage captured during the filming process.

The raw footage will be used by the videography team to edit and compile the World Food Day documentary.


Consultancy Period

The consultancy for drone videography will last for 2 days, during which all footage must be captured. You will work closely with the videography team to ensure all required shots are filmed efficiently and according to plan.

  1. Quotation: A detailed quotation for your drone videography services, including costs for using your own drone equipment.
  2. Work Samples: At least three samples of recent drone videography work, preferably through online portfolios or links.

  4. References: Contact information for three references who can vouch for your expertise in drone videography.

Terms of Payment

The fee and terms of payment will be negotiated with the consultant before the contract is signed. BvAT guarantees fair compensation for the services rendered in accordance with industry standards.
