Job Summary

Are you an experienced driver with a strong commitment to safety and a passion for supporting humanitarian missions? Join our team at the World Health Organization (WHO) as a Driver in multiple locations across Kenya, including Garissa, Nakuru, Embu, and Eldoret. As a crucial member of our Country Management Support Units (CSUs), you will ensure the safe and efficient transportation of WHO staff and resources, contributing to our mission of improving global health.

Key Responsibilities

Field Trips and Transport Facilitation

  • Undertake Field Trips: Facilitate transport for the field technical officer and other WHO officials to and from specified locations throughout Kenya.
  • Driving Standards: Drive WHO official vehicles adhering to recognized international road safety standards.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure the vehicle is in good running order, perform day-to-day maintenance checks (oil, water, battery, brakes, tires), perform minor repairs, arrange for other necessary repairs, and ensure the vehicle is kept clean.
  • Log Maintenance: Maintain detailed logs of official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
  • Accident Procedures: Follow all required steps and procedures in case of involvement in an accident.

Support Duties

  • Administrative Compliance: Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, rules, and regulations on all administrative and financial matters in the context of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Other Duties: Perform any other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Essential: Secondary school education, certificate of good conduct, and a valid, clean driving license.
  • Desirable: Technical level of education and knowledge of basic computer skills.

Experience

  • Essential: At least two years of driving experience with a safe driving record.
  • Desirable: Extensive experience driving long distances in specific duty stations’ regions. UN/WHO working experience is an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Driving Rules and Regulations: Thorough knowledge of Kenya’s driving rules and regulations.
  • Office Procedures: Familiarity with office procedures and transport needs of the office.
  • Driver Courtesies: Understanding of driver courtesies.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to read, write, and understand instructions in English and Swahili.
  • Report Writing: Ability to write concise and faithful reports of accidents, when applicable.

  • Essential: Intermediate knowledge of English and expert knowledge of Swahili.
