Hivos is seeking an experienced Donor Outreach Manager to join its Business Development team. This role focuses on driving Hivos’ fundraising efforts across East Africa and Southern Africa. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a proactive attitude, and a talent for identifying and cultivating relationships with bi- and multilateral government donors, foundations, and other potential partners.

The Donor Outreach Manager will play a key role in fundraising initiatives by organizing events, writing proposals, and delivering strategic outreach activities. As part of Hivos’ Business Development team, you will help ensure the organization’s financial goals are met while advancing Hivos’ mission.

Objectives of This Role

  • Promote awareness of Hivos’ mission and work.
  • Cultivate a strong network of dedicated donors and volunteers.
  • Identify and capitalize on new fundraising opportunities.
  • Plan and execute fundraising initiatives to meet financial targets.
  • Form and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, ensuring that both foundation and government donors are satisfied and well-informed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate Hivos’ mission, vision, and programs to potential donors and partners.
  • Coordinate proactive outreach towards donors with a specific focus on the African continent.
  • Contribute significantly to Hivos’ financial targets by identifying and engaging with relevant donors.
  • Lead and manage proposal teams for donor funding opportunities, ensuring high-quality submissions.
  • Organize fundraising events in collaboration with the communications and program teams.
  • Develop and review proposals for funding, ensuring they align with Hivos’ strategic goals.
  • Ensure donor satisfaction by maintaining strong, positive relationships.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of six years of experience in business development, sales, or marketing.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with a proven ability to engage with donors.
  • Excellent writing skills, particularly in crafting proposals, press releases, and fundraising letters.
  • Strong technical knowledge of business development processes and procedures, both internally and externally with donors.
  • A proactive attitude towards engaging with new and existing donors.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and events simultaneously.
  • A passion for donor intelligence and research.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in communications, business, public relations, or a related field.
  • Experience working with donor management systems.
  • Proven track record of writing successful grant proposals.
  • Confidence in public speaking and presenting at donor events.

What We Offer

Hivos offers a stimulating work environment within a professional international organization with dedicated staff. The position offers a national contract based on local labor conditions, with remuneration commensurate with the candidate’s experience and expertise. The contract is renewable depending on performance.
