About Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT)
Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) is a not-for-profit organization established in Kenya in 2009 by the Biovision Foundation for Ecological Development, Switzerland. BvAT is based at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) in Nairobi and aims to alleviate poverty and improve livelihoods of smallholder farmers across Kenya and other African countries. The trust disseminates knowledge and information on appropriate ecological technologies through three main programs:
- Farmer Communication Programme (FCP)
- Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) Projects
- Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture (KCOA)
BvAT works through various communication channels including print, radio, online, and outreach programs. These pathways focus on sustainable ecological agricultural (ESA) technologies that improve the health of humans, animals, plants, and the environment.
About the Assignment
Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) is producing a video feature for World Food Day 2024. The theme for this year is “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future”. The aim is to showcase how key stakeholders, particularly in Nandi County, Kenya, are contributing to this global theme.
The video producer will be tasked with the creation of a 30-minute documentary and a 10-minute short version for social media platforms. This documentary will highlight activities of key partners who are working to secure food rights and improve livelihoods in Nandi County.
Key Responsibilities
As a Documentary Producer for the World Food Day video, your responsibilities will include:
Pre-Production Planning
- Conceptualize and plan the World Food Day documentary from inception to completion.
- Develop a pre-production script and storyboard, to be approved by the World Food Day Publicity Committee.
- Arrange frequent meetings with BvAT stakeholders and book interviews with key players involved in the project.
Production and Filming
- Collaborate with Nandi County’s Communication Team and the BvAT Team to establish a comprehensive filming schedule.
- Coordinate all aspects of documentary production, including shooting, editing, and post-production.
- Source various filming locations in collaboration with Nandi County.
- Co-direct on-camera interviews with BvAT’s videography officer, including capturing B-roll footage.
Post-Production
- Create a post-production script to guide the editing process.
- Ensure timely submission of deliverables, adhering to the established project timelines.
- Address any challenges that may arise during production and proactively solve problems.
Project Management
- Manage all aspects of the documentary’s timeline and ensure deadlines are met.
- Coordinate all phases of production with internal and external teams.
- Maintain open communication with the BvAT Video Officer and provide regular progress updates.
Consultancy Period
The video production process is expected to take approximately four weeks, concluding by October 10, 2024. The consultancy period will span 21 working days.
Deliverables
At the end of the consultancy period, you will deliver:
- A 30-minute documentary highlighting contributions from stakeholders towards World Food Day 2024.
- A 10-minute short version of the documentary to be shared on social media and online platforms.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Experience
- Degree in Communications, Filmmaking, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in video documentary production, specifically within the agriculture and environmental sectors.
- Proven ability in scriptwriting and concept development.
Skills
- Strong understanding of film production techniques.
- Project planning and management skills, with the ability to manage tight timelines.
- Excellent editorial judgment and commercial awareness.
- Familiarity with film genres, themes, and creative storytelling.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Terms of Payment
The consultancy fee and payment terms will be negotiated before the signing of the contract. Payment will be tied to deliverables, ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the project.
