Job Summary

Are you passionate about leveraging data and technology to make a difference in public health? We’re seeking a talented Data Systems and Health Informatics Advisor to be a driving force in the successful execution of the Kenya Population-Based HIV Impact Assessment (KENPHIA II). As a pivotal member of our team, you’ll lead data management, system development, and IT infrastructure support. Join us in our mission to shape the future of healthcare in Kenya and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Systems

Lead and Inspire:

  • Manage a dynamic data systems team focused on developing and maintaining our cutting-edge Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) software using CSPro.
  • Ensure meticulous design, implementation, and upkeep of databases and data management systems, including real-time data monitoring, household monitoring, and field team management.

Innovate and Elevate:

  • Monitor data systems, ensuring they align with the dynamic requirements of the KENPHIA II study.
  • Implement crucial updates and enhancements to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.

IT Infrastructure Support

Strengthen IT Backbone:

  • Oversee the performance and security of servers, both on-premises and in the cloud, as well as mobile devices and other IT tools.
  • Establish robust processes for handling IT crises and implement strategies for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity.

Empower Our Field Teams:

  • Develop strategies to manage a large fleet of mobile devices with Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of a highly secure IT environment through training and best practices.

Data Management

Champion Data Excellence:

  • Lead our data management team to generate accurate, timely reports using tools like SAS, Stata, R, Python, and SQL.
  • Institute stringent data quality assurance and quality control processes.

Ensure Privacy and Precision:

  • Develop and oversee data protocols to safeguard research participants’ privacy and data security.
  • Manage mapping and listing processes for impeccable geographic data management.

Additional Responsibilities:

Collaborate and Communicate:

  • Maintain transparent communication with stakeholders on all aspects of data and IT operations.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and innovation within cross-functional teams.

Nurture Growth:

  • Conduct training sessions to uplift the skills and knowledge of data management and data systems personnel.
  • Provide essential support for professional development.

Qualifications:

Academic Excellence:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field.

Experience that Counts:

  • Over 5 years of experience in data engineering, data management, or related fields, ideally in public health or social science research.
  • Proven expertise in managing complex databases using SAS, Stata, R, Python, SQL, and CSPro.

Requirements:

Survey Savvy:

  • Grasp key survey metrics like response rates to drive study success.
  • Proficiency in mapping and listing procedures for geographic data management.

Tech Titan:

  • Familiarity with tools and applications for real-time data monitoring, field team management, laboratory sample tracking, and more.
  • Adept in IT support management and IT infrastructure, including on-premises, cloud, servers, networks, and MDM solutions.

Crisis Commander:

  • Demonstrated crisis management and communication experience.

Insight Instigator:

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to unearth actionable insights.

Leadership Luminary:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical matters clearly to non-technical audiences.

Global Citizen:

  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of local languages is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Resilient and Ethical:

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Dedication to the highest ethical standards.

HIV/AIDS Advocate:

  • Familiarity with and experience in HIV/AIDS-related studies.
