Project Description:
The Family Health Unit (FHU) within the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Centre for Global Health Research (CGHR) is dedicated to conducting clinical, epidemiological, and behavioral research with a focus on maternal and child health. FHU aims to implement effective interventions and promote positive health outcomes within the communities it serves. Currently, there are openings for 4 Data Clerks (Community Interviewers) to join our team.

Reports To: Study Coordinator

Job Descriptions:

As a Data Clerk (Community Interviewer), you will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Recruit and Consent Study Participants: Engage with potential participants, explain the study, and obtain informed consent.
  • Schedule Participant Visits: Arrange and coordinate home follow-ups and clinic visits for study participants.
  • Perform Malaria RDT: Conduct Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests as part of the study protocol.
  • Ensure Accuracy of Study Forms: Maintain meticulous records and ensure all study forms are accurately completed.
  • Sample Management: Properly label, store, and track samples. Coordinate with the study coordinator for sample transportation to the laboratory.
  • Conduct Interviews: Conduct interviews with study participants within designated study villages.
  • Community Mobilization: Engage in community mobilization and sensitization activities related to the TSCV trial.
  • Educate Community: Provide information about the TSCV trial to the community and address any concerns or issues.
  • Supply Management: Ensure timely availability of necessary supplies for fieldwork.
  • Attend Meetings: Participate in study field meetings and provide progress reports.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Clinical Officer and Data Manager to resolve queries and ensure smooth study operations.
  • Community Relations: Build and maintain positive relationships with MOH staff, Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), and the community at large.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake any other duties as assigned or delegated by the study management.

Person Specifications:

To qualify for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a minimum of KCSE mean grade D+ or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Fluent in written and oral Luo, English, and Swahili languages.
  • Possess a GCP certificate.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid motorcycle license.
  • Experience in data collection using electronic devices such as smartphones or tablets.
  • Capable of writing brief reports and maintaining records.
  • Reside in or willing to live and work in the study area.
  • Previous experience in working on trial studies and household surveys will be advantageous.
  • Experience in blood sample collection is an added advantage.
