Are you interested in growing a vibrant community that contributes to one of the world’s largest sources of free knowledge? Code for Africa (CfA) is seeking a full-time Community Coordinator to join our dynamic Communities Team. The role will be based at one of our hubs in Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, or Uganda, with the flexibility to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities

Community Growth and Management

  • Grow and manage the AWA community of Wikimedians across 30+ African countries.
  • Organize AWA community events including monthly meetups, edit-a-thons, and online international conferences.
  • Facilitate technical training on editing Wikipedia and its sister projects, focusing on climate, gender, and political topics.
  • Forge partnerships with research institutions, media outlets, statistical organizations, and Wikimedia communities.
  • Support the development of online courses on Wikimedia projects through CfA’s MOOC platform.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Develop and implement programs to combat misinformation on Wikipedia, with a focus on climate denialism, gender gaps, and political challenges.
  • Contribute to the growth of the community by securing resources and establishing sustainable partnerships.
  • Track and compile data on community engagement and the impact of AWA programs, sessions, and events.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Create and disseminate publicity content on various platforms, including Diff and Wikimedia communities.
  • Coordinate with CfA’s transnational team, including data analysts, software engineers, digital designers, and editorial experts.
  • Engage with diverse networks of Wikimedians, editors, and researchers across Africa.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Active Wikimedian in good standing with extensive experience.
  • Experience in coordinating Wikimedia programs such as edit-a-thons and campaigns.
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in French is highly advantageous.
  • Experience in using on-Wiki tools for identifying knowledge gaps, tracking contributions, and conducting research.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools such as spreadsheets, R, and Flourish.
  • Bilingual candidates (English and French) are preferred.
  • Digital-first workplace skills, including proficiency in Google Workspace, Slack, and Trello.
