Introduction

Save the Children International (SCI) is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Communications Officer to join our team in Nairobi, Kenya. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the MNCH Project supported by Save the Children South Korea and contribute to creating transformative change for children. The Communications Officer will play a critical role in developing engaging content, documenting impact stories, and ensuring robust digital engagement across social media platforms.

This role offers the chance to work in a collaborative environment that values creativity, accountability, and innovation. By supporting the implementation of advocacy and communication strategies, the Communications Officer will amplify the voices of children, advocate for their rights, and influence policy at the highest levels.


Key Responsibilities

Content Development and Documentation

  • Collect and produce two case studies per month to highlight the impact and success of the MNCH Project.
  • Create compelling impact stories, press releases, and donor reports to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Develop high-quality photo and video assets, packaging them for use in campaigns and reports.

Digital and Social Media Engagement

  • Implement and manage the social media strategy, ensuring consistent updates to the country office’s digital platforms.
  • Maintain a content calendar to drive timely and relevant engagement across social channels.
  • Track and report on social media engagement weekly to measure impact.

Media Relations and Event Support

  • Draft press releases, pitch stories to media outlets, and monitor media coverage related to SCI projects.
  • Support media visits to project sites, ensuring clear communication and logistical coordination.
  • Plan and manage the logistics for key project events, ensuring visibility and organization.

Internal Communications and Reporting

  • Facilitate effective internal communications, including maintaining calendars and preparing reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align communication goals with project objectives.

Advocacy and Campaigns

  • Support the implementation of advocacy strategies to influence decision-makers to uphold children’s rights.
  • Produce key messages, briefings, and fact sheets tailored for internal and external audiences.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in development communications, with a preference for candidates with humanitarian or NGO experience.
  • Strong skills in writing, photography, and editing.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of children’s rights and key international agreements.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and ability to work effectively in diverse environments.
