Opportunity Overview

As a Communications & Marketing Officer at RefuSHE, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our organization’s communications, marketing, and external relations strategy. Reporting to the Chief Fundraising Officer, you will collaborate with the Senior Director of Brand Strategy & External Relations based in the USA to develop compelling marketing materials, editorial content, and communication strategies. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact and drive positive change for refugee girls and young women in East Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Partner with the Senior Director to design and implement communications and marketing strategies aligned with RefuSHE’s mission and goals.
  • Content Creation: Develop engaging marketing materials, including brochures, impact reports, blogs, articles, videos, and graphics, to promote RefuSHE’s programs and initiatives.
  • Digital Engagement: Curate editorial content for various digital platforms, including social media, the RefuSHE website, and email newsletters, to amplify our message and engage with our audience.
  • Budget Management: Assist in the evaluation of communication needs, develop budgets, and contribute to annual work plans to ensure effective allocation of resources.
  • Cross-Office Collaboration: Facilitate communication between the Nairobi and US offices, sharing updates and aligning strategies to foster collaboration and cohesion.
  • Program Support: Collaborate with program managers to highlight program impact and craft compelling narratives that resonate with stakeholders and donors.
  • Partnership Building: Identify strategic partnerships and opportunities to promote RefuSHE’s story and mission across East Africa and beyond.
  • Media Relations: Cultivate relationships with media outlets, draft press releases, and coordinate interviews to raise awareness and visibility for RefuSHE’s work.
  • Event Management: Serve as the primary contact for on-campus events in Nairobi, liaising with internal teams to ensure successful event planning and execution.

Key Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing, communications, journalism, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in content development, marketing, and media relations; experience in the non-profit sector and working with at-risk populations is advantageous.
  • Skills: Exceptional writing and editing skills, proficiency in content development tools and social media management systems, familiarity with SEO and funnel marketing, and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
