Job Title: Communication Volunteer

Location: Machakos, Kenya

Duration: 6 months (starting May 1st, 2024)

Job Purpose:

This volunteer opportunity is perfect for individuals passionate about pursuing a career in communication and public relations. As a Communication Volunteer, you’ll have the chance to test your skills, explore your interests, and contribute to meaningful initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Creation: Draft high-quality copy for external news stories, newsletters, factsheets, and web content.
  2. Social Media Management: Assist in developing social media strategies to promote organizational initiatives and boost engagement. Create compelling content for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  3. Metrics Analysis: Monitor and analyze social media metrics to evaluate campaign success and identify areas for improvement. Track content production and measure reach and impact.
  4. Data Quality Assurance: Ensure data and visualization quality in both internal and external communications, including intranet, presentations, newsletters, and brochures.
  5. Strategy Support: Support the updating of IFK’s communication strategy and plan. Assist in developing relevant communications strategies within IFK offices.
  6. Event Coordination: Assist in organizing field events and high-level media events in coordination with project staff.
  7. Stakeholder Communication: Provide support in preparing background materials for high-level discussions with funding partners and government counterparts.
  8. Ad Hoc Tasks: Undertake any other communication-related tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Practical experience in digital communications or social media management with a strong understanding of email best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle inquiries professionally and efficiently.
  • Proficiency in computers and common software applications, including digital collection and editing.
  • Basic understanding of web development principles (HTML, CSS) is a plus.
