Introduction to VVOB

VVOB is an international NGO with a strong presence in Kenya. After a decade-long absence, VVOB resumed its operations in Kenya in 2022. Our current initiative, Implementing National Curriculum Reforms through App-based Learning for School Leaders in Secondary Education (INCREASE), supports the Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI). This project focuses on piloting an app-based blended training system to enhance instructional leadership skills of school leaders across Kenya. In 2024, we also launched a regional program on Teacher Professional Development for Gender-Responsive Pedagogy.

Our mission is to ensure that learners globally can access quality education. As a Communication Advisor at VVOB, you will play a crucial role in furthering this mission by developing and managing internal and external communication strategies that elevate our projects and foster stakeholder engagement.


Purpose of the Role

The Communication Advisor will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing VVOB in Kenya’s Communication Strategy aligned with the Global Communication Strategy.
  • Leading the creation of engaging communication outputs including articles, blogs, press releases, and social media content.
  • Developing professional communication materials such as info-graphics, videos, and corporate messaging.
  • Providing technical support and advice on communication matters, including capacity development for colleagues and partners.
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest trends and policies in international education and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Formulate and execute a comprehensive Communication Strategy for VVOB in Kenya.
  • Content Creation: Regularly produce and manage social media content, articles, and press releases to enhance VVOB’s presence and engagement.
  • Material Development: Create and oversee the production of visual and textual communication materials.
  • Support and Coordination: Offer technical support and coordinate communication efforts with VVOB colleagues and partners.
  • Trend Monitoring: Stay informed about communication trends and international education discussions.

Weekly Highlights

  • Participate in global project team meetings to explore funding opportunities.
  • Draft articles highlighting VVOB’s achievements in teacher professional development.
  • Oversee the creation of educational videos for blended learning programs.
  • Capture and share success stories and updates through social media.
  • Prepare content for external communication, such as articles for the Embassy of Belgium.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven expertise in internal and external communication with various media channels.
  • Skills: Proficient in digital and social media, graphic design tools (e.g., Photoshop), and MS Office.
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent command of the English language.
  • Nationality: Kenyan national.
