Job Purpose

The Checker Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all trucks comply with the company’s logistics protocols. This role emphasizes safety, efficiency, and meticulous documentation to support the objectives of the business unit. The Checker Clerk will perform these duties with close adherence to management’s instructions and the company’s core guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance

• Analyze and understand health and safety risks: Ensure that both company fleet drivers and subcontracted drivers operate within safety guidelines to minimize risks.
• Maintain a secure and clean work environment: Ensure the workspace remains safe and fair, aligning with company standards and site rules.
• Ensure driver compliance: Ensure all drivers comply with the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards, site rules, and regulations.
• Safety adherence: Monitor that all drivers, both internal and external, adhere to safety protocols at all times.

Loading and Dispatch

• Verify goods for loading: Ensure all goods are properly stacked on wooden pallets and checked before loading into trucks.
• Count and reconcile packages: Ensure that all packages being loaded into a truck are accurately counted and reconciled with the order.
• Truck sealing and dispatch: Ensure trucks are securely sealed before dispatch and that dispatch protocols are strictly followed.
• Supervise loading and offloading: Oversee the loading and offloading process, ensuring accuracy in line with order quantities.

Documentation and Reporting

• Document preparation: Ensure the truck driver is provided with all necessary documents, including ERN/GRN and Hauler Copy.
• Timely escalation of issues: Escalate any emerging issues to the Transport Lead or the Truck on Duty team.
• POD management: Ensure all Proof of Delivery (PODs) are submitted within the stipulated time and that any issues are immediately reported.

Operational Efficiency

• Prevent non-conforming goods: Ensure that non-conforming products (such as broken or damaged goods) are not loaded onto trucks.
• Decision-making in a fast-paced environment: Handle decision-making efficiently, especially in high-pressure situations or when there are client delays.
• Supervision of driver support: Monitor drivers to ensure they support the loading process and efficiently manage truck access into loading bays.

Education, Experience, and Skills

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or secondary education.
• Experience in data clerical work, with a focus on logistics and inventory management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in Logistics/Freight Forwarding, Purchasing, or Supply Chain Management.
• University degree in a relevant field is an advantage.
• Valid driving license is highly desirable.

Key Competencies

• Analytical and numerical skills: Strong ability to work with data and perform calculations.
• Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, capable of interacting with diverse teams.
• Computer proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Customs knowledge: Familiarity with customs documentation and procedures is an asset.
