1. VETERINARY OFFICER – NYANDARUA COUNTY

Position Overview:

As a Veterinary Officer with FSK, you will play a pivotal role in supporting small-holder farmers in Nyandarua County. You will be responsible for providing veterinary services, promoting animal health and welfare, and facilitating training sessions to enhance farmers’ understanding of animal husbandry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting routine health checks and vaccinations for livestock.
  • Diagnosing and treating animal illnesses and injuries.
  • Offering guidance on livestock management techniques, including feeding, breeding, and disease prevention.
  • Collaborating with local stakeholders, including farmers, agricultural extension officers, and government agencies.
  • Organizing and facilitating training workshops on topics such as animal nutrition, disease management, and biosecurity measures.
  • Collecting and analyzing data to monitor the health status of livestock populations.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of veterinary outreach programs aimed at improving animal welfare and productivity.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine  from a recognized institution.
  • Valid practicing license from the Kenya Veterinary Board.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in veterinary practice, preferably in rural agricultural settings.
  • Strong diagnostic and treatment skills, with proficiency in common veterinary procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a passion for community engagement and capacity building.
  • Ability to work independently in challenging environments with limited resources.
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili, with knowledge of local dialects considered an asset.

2. FIELD OFFICER – NAROK FSK OFFICE

At FSK, we are dedicated to empowering small-holder farmers and fostering sustainable agricultural practices. Our commitment to community development drives our efforts to create positive change in rural areas. As a Field Officer stationed at our Narok office, you will have the opportunity to work closely with local communities, providing extension services, facilitating training sessions, and promoting agricultural innovation.

Position Overview:

As a Field Officer, your primary responsibility will be to support agricultural extension activities in Narok County. You will engage with farmers, provide technical assistance, and promote the adoption of best practices in crop production, soil management, and water conservation. Additionally, you will assist in project coordination, data collection, and monitoring and evaluation efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting field visits to assess the needs and challenges of small-holder farmers.
  • Providing technical advice on crop selection, planting techniques, and pest and disease management.
  • Organizing and delivering training sessions on sustainable agricultural practices, including conservation agriculture and agroforestry.
  • Collaborating with local partners, government agencies, and community-based organizations to leverage resources and maximize impact.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of agricultural projects and initiatives.
  • Collecting and analyzing data to track project progress and outcomes.
  • Engaging with farmers to promote the adoption of climate-smart agriculture and resilience-building strategies.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or related field.
  • Proven experience in agricultural extension or community development.
  • Knowledge of agronomic practices, crop production systems, and agribusiness concepts.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in rural settings with limited supervision.
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili, with proficiency in local dialects preferred.

3. FIELD OFFICER – BARINGO COUNTY

About Us:

Farming Systems Kenya is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture and improving the livelihoods of small-holder farmers in Baringo County. As a trusted partner in community development, we are seeking a dedicated Field Officer to join our team and support our efforts to empower farmers, enhance food security, and promote environmental sustainability.

Position Overview:

As a Field Officer based in Baringo County, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance, training, and support to small-holder farmers. You will work closely with local communities to identify their needs, deliver extension services, and facilitate the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices. Additionally, you will contribute to project planning, implementation, and monitoring activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting field assessments to identify agricultural challenges and opportunities.
  • Providing tailored advice and recommendations to farmers on crop selection, land management, and water conservation.
  • Facilitating training workshops on sustainable agricultural techniques, including organic farming methods and drought-resistant crops.
  • Collaborating with local organizations, government agencies, and research institutions to promote knowledge sharing and innovation.
  • Assisting in the development of agricultural demonstration plots and farmer field schools to showcase best practices.
  • Monitoring project activities and outcomes, collecting data, and preparing progress reports.
  • Engaging with farmers to promote agroecological approaches to farming and natural resource management.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Previous experience in agricultural extension, community mobilization, or related field.
  • Knowledge of sustainable agriculture principles, agroecology, and participatory approaches.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently in rural environments with limited resources.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili, with proficiency in local languages preferred.
