Introduction

Are you an expert in business development with a passion for securing partnerships and ensuring the financial sustainability of large-scale events? The Centre for Multiparty Democracy Kenya (CMD Kenya) invites you to be a pivotal part of our People Dialogue Festival (PDF) team. This role offers you the opportunity to leverage your skills in sponsorship acquisition, partnership development, and fundraising to shape the future of one of Kenya’s most significant dialogue initiatives.

CMD Kenya is an organization deeply committed to promoting democratic dialogue, fostering collaboration, and bringing together leaders from across sectors to address critical societal challenges. The People Dialogue Festival (PDF), a key event in our annual calendar, brings together over 10,000 participants including political leaders, civil society, private sector representatives, and citizens.

As the Business Development Consultant, you will be responsible for driving the financial growth of the festival through securing sponsorships, partnerships, and donor funding, ensuring that the PDF continues to be an impactful platform for democratic discourse.


Key Responsibilities

As a Business Development Consultant, your main responsibilities will include:

1. Review and Finalize the PDF Business Plan

  • Evaluate the current business plan and make necessary modifications.
  • Identify potential sponsors and funding sources through market research.
  • Analyze the competitive landscape to align sponsorship strategies with trends.
  • Prioritize sectors and organizations that align with the PDF’s mission.

2. Sponsorship and Partnership Strategy Development

  • Create a sponsorship strategy that includes tiered packages tailored to prospective sponsors.
  • Develop customized partnership proposals aligned with sponsors’ interests.
  • Implement marketing strategies to approach and engage potential sponsors.

3. Proposal Development and Presentations

  • Prepare sponsorship proposals and presentations to secure sponsorship agreements.
  • Present proposals to key stakeholders and potential partners.

4. Sponsorship Negotiations and Contracts

  • Lead negotiations to secure mutually beneficial sponsorship agreements.
  • Draft MoUs or contracts with clear roles, deliverables, and benefits.

5. Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building

  • Engage key stakeholders including government bodies, corporates, and development agencies.
  • Foster long-term partnerships for future PDF editions.

6. Reporting and Monitoring

  • Provide regular updates on business development progress to the Event Director/Steering Committee.
  • Monitor sponsor agreements to ensure delivery of benefits.
  • Prepare final reports outlining business development outcomes and recommendations.

Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Proven track record in business development, partnership development, or fundraising, ideally for large-scale events.
  • Strong networking and negotiation skills.
  • Experience working with corporates, NGOs, government agencies, and development partners in Kenya.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan socio-political and economic environment.
  • Understanding of event management and the ability to align business development efforts with event objectives.
