Job Purpose

Are you passionate about wildlife control and aviation safety? Join our team as a Bird Scout Trainee and contribute to the secure and efficient operation of airports and airstrips.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

i. Wildlife Surveillance and Monitoring

  • Maintain vigilant surveillance of wildlife activities within airport premises and surrounding areas.
  • Monitor bird and wildlife behaviors and movements to prevent aircraft safety hazards.

ii. Wildlife Deterrence and Scaring

  • Effectively scare away birds and wildlife to minimize potential risks.

iii. Airfield Inspection and Hazard Identification

  • Perform thorough airfield inspections to identify and deter possible wildlife hazards.

iv. Aircraft Safety Maintenance

  • Ensure bird and wildlife presence doesn’t compromise the safety of aircraft.

v. Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of bird/wildlife control activities and incidents.

vi. Emergency Communication

  • Report wildlife-related emergencies promptly to the Duty Wildlife Officer for appropriate action.

vii. Emergency Response

  • Participate in post-bird strike clean-up procedures.

viii. Data Collection

  • Collect and collate wildlife strike data and assist in bird and wildlife surveys.

ix. Risk Management Assessment

  • Engage in bird/wildlife risk management assessment to develop effective control measures.

x. Research and Innovation

  • Contribute to research activities aimed at improving bird/wildlife control measures.

xi. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Participate in local Wildlife Bird Strike Committee meetings and ensure effective communication and cooperation with stakeholders.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Grade C or equivalent.
  • Certificate in Wildlife Management.
  • Age: Not more than 26 years (Born from January, 1997).

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication abilities.

Clearance Certificates

Shortlisted candidates are required to provide the following clearance certificates, as per Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010:

  • Police Clearance Certificate from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
  • Clearance Certificate from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
  • Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
  • Clearance from the Ethics & Anti-corruption Authority (EACC).
  • Report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

Certificates must be valid and current.

Self-Declaration Form

The EACC self-declaration form should indicate the specific position being applied for.
