Coffee Lab Nairobi is offering an exciting Barista Apprenticeship opportunity to help you gain hands-on experience in one of the fastest-growing coffee markets. This 3-month program offers you the chance to work directly with expert baristas, engage with customers, and develop your skills in coffee brewing and preparation. This could be your pathway to a full-time position at Coffee Lab Nairobi!

Key Responsibilities

1. Coffee Preparation and Service:

Assist with preparing specialty coffee beverages following established recipes and techniques.
Educate customers about various coffee brewing methods, such as pour-over, espresso, and cold brew.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee bar and service areas.

2. Customer Engagement and Experience:

Engage with customers to provide an excellent service experience.
Demonstrate a passion for coffee by answering customer questions about beans, roasts, and brewing methods.
Promote the Coffee Lab’s range of products, such as coffee beans, brewing equipment, and accessories.

3. Learning and Growth:

Participate in cuppings and educational sessions to improve your knowledge of coffee origins, processing methods, and flavor profiles.
Learn about coffee roasting and the various factors that impact flavor and quality.
Collaborate with experienced baristas and gain insight into advanced techniques and skills.

4. Teamwork and Collaboration:

Work closely with the team to ensure smooth daily operations of the coffee shop.
Communicate effectively with team members to maintain high standards of service.
Attend regular meetings and contribute ideas for improving the customer experience.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

Basic knowledge or completion of a barista course from a recognized institution.
Passionate about all things related to coffee and customer service.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in a coffee shop or food & beverage service environment is a plus.
Familiarity with different coffee brewing methods (French press, AeroPress, etc.).
Eagerness to learn and develop new skills in a dynamic work setting.
