Key Duties and Responsibilities
Marshalling Mastery
- Marshalling aircraft in and out of the bay for smooth flight turnaround schedules.
Safety Sentinel
- Inspecting the bay for Foreign Object Debris (FODs) to guarantee the safety of aircraft, passengers, and ground crew.
Guidance Guru
- Operating the Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) and lead service vehicle for precise aircraft movement.
Airside Authority
- Controlling ground flight movements using International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
Bridge Maestro
- Operating passenger boarding bridges for safe passenger embarking and disembarking.
Data Dynamo
- Uploading air traffic movement into the Airport Operations Database (AODB) for efficient record-keeping.
Safety Sheriff
- Enforcing airside safety rules, ensuring compliance with IATA, ICAO, and other international standards.
Hazard Hunter
- Inspecting the apron for hazards, oil spillage, and FODs to ensure a secure environment.
Record Keeper
- Recording data for aircraft handled, facilitating management decision-making.
Fueling Oversight
- Overseeing aircraft refueling to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
Passenger Protector
- Directing the safe movement of passengers, vehicles, and equipment on the airside.
Key Qualifications and Experience for an Apron Controller Trainee
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Grade C or equivalent.
- Certificate in Airport Operations (added advantage).
- Working experience in Ground Flight Safety (added advantage).
