Key Responsibilities
For Schools
- Provide technical guidance for developing and maintaining school kitchen gardens.
- Design and deliver training programs for teachers and students in sustainable agriculture.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress and offer ongoing support.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to promote sustainable agricultural practices.
- Assist in crop selection and planting schedules tailored to school needs.
- Conduct soil analysis and recommend improvement strategies.
- Work with the MEL Officer to implement systems measuring the impact of school gardens on health and education.
- Stay informed about the latest trends in sustainable agriculture and share knowledge.
- Prepare comprehensive progress reports on school garden projects.
For Farmers
- Gather and document farmer data, including demographics and farming practices.
- Conduct field visits to monitor agricultural activities.
- Collaborate with farmers to develop sustainable and profitable crop production plans.
- Offer training on pest management, soil fertility, and advanced farming practices.
- Support the MEL Officer in evaluating the outcomes of farming activities.
- Address challenges such as soil health, water availability, and pest management.
- Build relationships with community leaders, farmers, and stakeholders.
- Research and share emerging agricultural technologies and market trends.
- Prepare detailed reports on crop production progress and impacts.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop Science, or related fields.
- Certification in Sustainable Agriculture or Organic Farming is a bonus.
Experience
- At least 2 years of experience in agronomy or agricultural extension services.
- Proven success in sustainable agricultural practices such as soil health improvement or water conservation.
- Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation systems.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in soil analysis, crop scheduling, and conducting training.
- Knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming.
- Experience using tools like GPS for mapping or data management.
Soft Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to address productivity challenges.
- Effective time management for planning and reporting.
- Ability to work both independently and in teams.
Additional Requirements
- Passion for sustainable agriculture.
