The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU YVC), established in 2010, is a flagship continental Youth Leadership program that recruits, trains, and deploys young African professionals from all 55 AU Member States to serve as professional volunteers for a period of 12 months.

The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AUYVC) promotes volunteerism to empower young people in Africa, making them key actors in Africa’s development goals. By enhancing their participation in policy, programs, and initiatives, we aim to realize AU Agenda2063 – ‘The Africa We Want.’ Together, we share skills, knowledge, creativity, and learning to build a more integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Continent driven by its citizens. This initiative aligns with the Decision of AU Head of States and Governments in Assembly/AU/Dec.274 (XVI) of January 2010, to establish a Continental Volunteer initiative and promote volunteerism to accelerate Africa’s development.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of an AU Member State, residing on the continent or in the Diaspora.
- Age: You should be between 18 and 35 years old (must be under 35 upon completing 12 months of service).
- Qualifications: Possess post-secondary certified qualifications (TVET, Bachelor’s, Master’s, etc.).
- Availability: You should be available in 2023/24 to dedicate 12 months for professional volunteer service.
- Location: Willingness to live and work in another AU Member State.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Swahili, Spanish).
- Experience: Have at least one-year verifiable volunteering experience and one-year professional work experience.

- Complete the application form: Fill out your personal information and complete the application form.
- Attach required documents: i. Your updated professional CV (no longer than 3 pages). ii. Bio page of your passport or national ID. iii. Certificate copy of your highest completed qualification (transcripts are not acceptable). iv. Attach a letter of recommendation (not older than 2 years) attesting to your leadership qualities (in the manifesto folder).
- Write a cover letter: In your cover letter, please respond to the following questions: i. Why do you want to become an African Union Youth Volunteer? ii. What makes you the best candidate for AUYVC? iii. What skills are you bringing to the AUYVC and your host organization?
- Review and submit your application: Ensure you submit your application before Saturday, September 30, 2023, 11:59 p.m. EAT.

Required Skills
