Overview

CIFOR-ICRAF, two renowned non-profit science institutions, are seeking an Africa Communication Coordinator to join their dynamic team. This role presents a unique opportunity to shape regional, national, and project-related communications strategies. You’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing the environment, well-being, and knowledge sharing across the African continent.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Regional Communication Management
- Oversee all communications activities in the Nairobi office and across Africa.
- Manage a talented team of communications staff and consultants.
- Develop and implement effective communication strategies and tactical plans for country offices, projects, and programs.
- Coordinate media interactions, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement.
2. Content Creation and Management
- Produce a range of content, including publications, articles, web content, social media posts, media releases, infographics, videos, and more.
- Manage regional communication channels, such as websites, social media platforms, and language blogs.
- Collaborate with the COE communications team and consultants to ensure high-quality production.
3. Event Coordination
- Plan, market, and execute various events, including regional participation in global events.
- Handle event logistics, promotion, and reporting to drive successful outcomes.
4. Reporting and Analysis
- Create insightful reports analyzing the performance of communication activities.
- Utilize data-driven insights to refine strategies and improve engagement.
5. Risk Management and Safety
- Identify and mitigate potential risks within the communication realm.
- Adhere to occupational health and safety policies and statutory requirements.
Education, Knowledge, and Experience
- Master’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in strategic communications planning, messaging, and monitoring.
- 4 years of full-time experience in journalism, writing, editing, digital and print media, video production, or broadcasting.
- Strong understanding of various communication formats and channels, with a focus on digital media and social media trends.
- Background in environment, climate, forestry, or related subjects, coupled with science communication skills.
- Proficiency in English and French (both verbal and written); Proficiency in Portuguese and Spanish is an advantage.
Terms and Conditions
- This is a local position offering competitive remuneration in local currency based on skills and experience.
- Initial appointment is for 1 year, inclusive of a three-month probationary period, with potential for extension.
- Duty station: Nairobi, Kenya.
