Job Summary

We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Construction Project Intern based in Nairobi, Kenya. This role is designed to provide valuable educational experiences, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application in a real-world setting. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in construction project management while working under the guidance of the Construction Project Manager. This is a six-month fixed-term, non-renewable contract with the potential to significantly impact your career in construction and project management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in Construction Project Planning and Scopes: Collaborate in the development of project plans, including defining scope and objectives.
  • Prepare Project Management Plans: Contribute to the creation of comprehensive management plans for assigned construction projects.
  • Develop Project Schedules and Milestones: Help in establishing project timelines and key milestones in coordination with project contractors.
  • Monitor Project Costs and Budgets: Assist in tracking project expenses and budgets, including preparing cost estimates and unit cost reports.
  • Organize and Conduct Meetings: Support in organizing pre-award and pre-construction meetings to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Develop and Monitor Quality, Safety, and Risk Management Plans: Assist in establishing and reviewing plans to manage project quality, safety, and risks.
  • Evaluate Project Schedules: Help in assessing project timelines to ensure that milestones are met.
  • Prepare and Organize Project Documents: Assist in managing project documentation, including BOQs and construction drawings.
  • Manage Assigned Projects: Contribute to the management and execution of assigned projects.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Basic understanding of commercial construction processes, including building codes, design plans, and construction drawings. Familiarity with software such as Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD.
  • Project Estimation Skills: Ability to understand and verify project estimates, market rates, and process change orders.
  • Contractual Knowledge: Understanding of contractual language and negotiation skills to safeguard the Church’s interests.
  • Communication Skills: Proficient in verbal and written communication, demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.
  • Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Certification: Progress towards certification in Civil Engineering or Architecture is a plus.
  • Additional Requirement: Must be worthy of a Temple Recommend.
