Job Summary

As an Accountant at Kakamega Millers Limited, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring financial stability, transparency, and growth. Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting and Documentation

  • Document financial transactions by accurately entering account information into the system.
  • Prepare detailed asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing relevant financial data.
  • Summarize the current financial status of the organization by preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other essential financial reports.
  • Audit documents to substantiate financial transactions, ensuring compliance and accuracy.

2. Analysis and Recommendations

  • Analyze various accounting options and recommend financial actions to improve profitability and reduce risk.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information to identify and correct errors.
  • Contribute to financial forecasting and departmental budgeting by providing critical financial insights.

3. Compliance and Control

  • Maintain strong accounting controls by preparing and recommending the implementation of policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency.
  • Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions in compliance with established procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ensure the security of financial information by completing database backups regularly.

4. Stakeholder Communication

  • Effectively communicate financial findings and reports with stakeholders, including management and external auditors, to support informed decision-making.
  • Provide guidance to the accounting clerical staff by coordinating daily activities and answering technical questions.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s Degree is a plus but not required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within the Agriculture and Mining sectors.

Key Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and GAAP.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting, with the ability to prepare balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate financial records.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgeting, financial forecasting, and auditing processes.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with accounting software, such as QuickBooks or SAP, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of current business trends and the ability to apply this understanding to financial decision-making.
