Job Purpose
The Accountant will be responsible for processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, preparing financial reports, and providing actionable insights to optimize business performance. The position supports the company’s financial strategy by analyzing key overheads, taxes, and cost drivers to ensure effective decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Processing and Financial Reporting
- Process financial transactions and maintain accurate and up-to-date books of accounts.
- Prepare financial reports in compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist the Finance/Treasury/Credit Manager in all finance operations tasks.
Cost and Tax Management
- Monitor and control costs, ensuring financial resources are efficiently utilized.
- Review and approve journals to ensure completeness and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Analyze trends in revenues, margins, and overheads to provide actionable insights for management.
- Identify and analyze opportunities for tax savings and cost optimization initiatives.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Prepare and consolidate financial entries for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
- Collaborate with other departments to prepare cost analysis reports and financial forecasts.
- Evaluate the financial impact of changes in accounting policies, tax regulations, and other business initiatives.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Cross-Functional Partnerships
- Partner with non-finance team members to advise on cost control and optimization strategies.
- Work closely with sales, retail, marketing, and supply chain teams to identify cost optimization opportunities.
- Participate in cross-functional reviews and provide insights to support business performance.
Training and Development
- Coach and train junior accountants in financial practices, cost management, and tax optimization.
- Participate in finance training programs as part of staff development and awareness creation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics from an accredited university.
- Membership in a recognized accountancy body (e.g., CPA, CFA, or ACCA).
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a busy finance environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with financial analytics tools such as BI, Qlik, or Business Warehouse is an advantage.
