Key Responsibilities

As the Accountant at Marble Arch Hotel Nairobi, you will be tasked with a wide range of responsibilities that are crucial to the financial health and compliance of the hotel. These include but are not limited to:

• Financial Auditing: Conduct regular audits of the hotel’s financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
• Tax Computation: Accurately compute taxes and ensure timely submission of tax returns in compliance with local tax laws.
• Accounting Transactions: Manage and reconcile all accounting transactions, ensuring that they are accurately recorded in the hotel’s financial system.
• Bookkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records, including ledgers, journals, and financial statements.
• Budgeting: Prepare and monitor the hotel’s annual budget, providing detailed reports on financial performance and identifying areas for cost savings.
• General Ledger Functions: Oversee general ledger operations, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end closing processes.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, providing insights into the hotel’s financial position.
• Compliance: Ensure that all financial operations comply with relevant accounting regulations and internal policies.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications and possess the following skills:

• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as an Accountant in a managerial position, preferably within the hospitality industry.
• Knowledge of Accounting Regulations: Comprehensive understanding of accounting regulations and procedures specific to the hospitality sector.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks: Demonstrated proficiency in using QuickBooks for managing financial transactions and generating reports.
• General Ledger Expertise: Strong experience with general ledger functions, including reconciliations and journal entries.
• Educational Background: A degree in Accounting or Finance is required. A CPA 2 qualification or above is highly desirable.
• Advanced MS Excel Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel, including advanced functions such as VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and data analysis.
• Experience with Hotel Software: Experience using Hotel Plus software is an added advantage and will be considered favorably.
