Key Responsibilities
As the Risk and Compliance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the Sacco’s assets and reputation. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and Maintaining the Risk Policy and Framework: Regularly update the Sacco’s Risk Policy and ensure the Risk Management Framework is aligned with industry best practices.
- Maintaining Corporate-wide and Departmental Risk Registers: Develop and manage comprehensive risk registers to identify and monitor risks across all departments.
- Internal Control Inventory Management: Based on procedural reviews and walkthroughs, maintain an inventory of internal controls and map them to key risk areas.
- Executing Corporate Compliance and Fraud Risk Assessments: Assist in identifying key risks and assessing mitigating controls to determine the organization’s risk profile.
- Developing and Monitoring Key Risk Indicators (KRIs): Establish and monitor KRIs mapped to various risks to proactively implement risk mitigation measures.
- Identifying Emerging Risks: Stay abreast of new regulatory, fraud, and money laundering risks, especially those associated with new products, services, customer types, geographies, and channels.
- Coordinating Risk Information Collection: Gather risk data from source systems and departments, analyze it, and apply findings to key risk areas to update the risk profile.
- Policy Attestations and Procedure Development: Conduct policy attestations and assist in developing and updating policies and procedures by enforcing documented standards such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Performing Compliance Audits: Conduct both internal and external compliance audits to ensure adherence to internal operations and evaluate procedures for accuracy against internal standards.
- Regulatory Compliance Universe Management: Develop and maintain a complete and updated regulatory compliance universe.
- Providing Guidance on Compliance Matters: Offer expert advice on emerging operational, legal, and regulatory compliance issues.
- Championing Environmental, Social, and Governance Processes: Promote compliance with all Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) processes within the organization.
- Collaborating with Internal Audit: Work closely with the Internal Audit team to accomplish assurance activities effectively.
- Enforcing AML/CFT Compliance Culture: Communicate and enforce the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT) compliance culture as per Know Your Customer (KYC) policies.
Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following qualifications and possesses the necessary skills:
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Commerce, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, or any other related field.
- At least completion of CPA/ACCA Part 2.
- Holder of Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) or Certified Risk Analyst (CRA) will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in risk management and compliance roles.
