About Wangu Kanja Foundation

Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the Wangu Kanja Foundation is a non-profit national organization dedicated to addressing sexual violence through prevention, protection, and response. Although our roots are in Nairobi, our work spans across all 47 counties in Kenya. The foundation was established by Ms. Wangu Kanja, a Human Rights Champion with over 18 years of experience in gender and development. Born out of Ms. Kanja’s personal challenges in seeking justice after a sexual violence ordeal, WKF is committed to transforming the lives of survivors by advocating for their rights, providing support services, and promoting gender equality.


Key Responsibilities

1. Coordination and Support

  • Assist the Program Officer in planning, organizing, and coordinating survivor support programs and activities.
  • Prepare work plans, budgets, and activity schedules to ensure effective and timely delivery of services.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and partners to facilitate successful project implementation.

2. Survivor Empowerment and Advocacy

  • Engage with survivors to assess needs and priorities for tailored support services.
  • Participate in advocacy activities, promoting survivors’ access to justice, healthcare, and legal resources.
  • Support the development of advocacy materials and campaigns that raise awareness about sexual violence.

3. Training and Capacity Building

  • Organize and deliver training sessions for staff, volunteers, and community partners on topics such as trauma-informed care and gender sensitivity.
  • Create and distribute training materials to foster a survivor-centered approach to service delivery.
  • Assist in the evaluation of training programs to ensure they meet the needs of participants.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Collect, analyze, and report data on program outcomes and impact.
  • Assist in preparing case studies, success stories, and progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the development of monitoring and evaluation tools to track program effectiveness.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current student or recent graduate in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Passionate about gender equality, human rights, and community development.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and project coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
